UNDERSTANDING THE DEEP THINGS OF GOD
Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth…(John16:13).
Prior to His ascension, the Lord Jesus said to His disciples, “I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now” (John 16:12). He said this, not because He was hiding certain things from them, but because they couldn't receive those things at the time.
Jesus reserved the job of taking us further into the deep mysteries and revelations of God for the Holy Spirit.
The disciples had to wait until He came before they could understand most of what Jesus talked about. What were these things?
The Gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, chronicle the life of the Son of God in the flesh; all that He did before He went to the cross; the healings and miracles that He performed. Now, the Bible tells us why these were written: “…these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name” (John 20:31).
They were written to people who didn’t have the life of God and didn't have the revelation of Jesus as the Son of God.
If you observe, the Gospels didn’t quite tell us why Jesus had to die on the cross, or why He was raised from the dead. Those who lived at the time didn’t understand these things.
Remember that Peter rebuked the Lord for saying He was going to die (Mark 8:31-32). The Holy Spirit had to come to unveil the deep things of God to us. 1 Corinthians 2:10 says, “But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.”
Through the Holy Spirit, we discover the things that have been freely given to us in Christ Jesus. While the Gospels spoke about the person of Jesus, the Epistles, beginning from the Book of Romans, talk about us—who we are in Christ, our abilities, and our heritage in Him!
They show you God’s picture of you as a new creation, born of the Spirit, and superior to the devil and all the principles of this world. Halleluiah!
Life is full of mysteries, unanswered questions, events, and activities beyond human understanding. As Christians, our way of dealing with these mysteries is by speaking mysteries. Rather than wonder about negative circumstances, we cancel them by speaking about spiritual mysteries.
The Bible says, “For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries” (1 Corinthians 14:2). When we pray in tongues, we’re uttering divine mysteries inspired by the Holy Spirit.
At such times, your spirit reaches into the realm of the spirit, just as the Bible says, “Deep calleth unto deep…”(Psalm 42:7). Then 1 Corinthians 2:10-11 says, “…for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.”
These mysteries of the Spirit that are unknown to men are unveiled to us by the Holy Spirit: “Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth...” (1 Corinthians 2:12-13).
Notice that it says, “...Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth....” Cultivate the habit of speaking in tongues often. As you do, you speak things into your future. You settle matters and take care of things in the realm of the spirit so that when the time of crisis comes, you just laugh at your way through.
This is why God wants us to pray all the time in the spirit:
“Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints” (Ephesians 6:18).
Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son (Colossians 1:12-13).
When Jesus walked the earth, He lived the Kingdom life. His life and ministry were miraculous and supernatural. He fed five thousand men with a little boy’s lunch (women and children not counted). He raised the dead, walked on water, etc. He did so many other supernatural things, which are recorded for us in the Bible.
But here’s the point: the miracles that Jesus performed weren’t miracles to Him. Rather, they were the expressions of His Kingdom life. The things He did, and the way He lived shows the way we ought to live and function today, for we’re in the Kingdom now. Being born again, we’ve been born into the Kingdom of God’s dear Son, where the supernatural is natural with us.
Therefore, like Jesus, your entire life, every day, should be an unending gusher of the miraculous and supernatural. Every move you make, every step you take, every word you speak, should be outflows of the supernatural! This is because the Word of God is clear: “…as He (Jesus) is, so are we in this world” (1 John 4:17).
We have the same life He has. His power is in you, working all the time, because He lives in you. But you have to learn how to let it flow out to the world. Divinity is at work in you. It’s the reason you must inundate your mind with God’s Word and thoughts from the Spirit of God! Consciously practice the God-life by living out God’s Word.
Many live as ordinary men due to their ignorance of the Word (Psalm 82:5). Study and meditate on God’s Word continually, to appropriate the blessings of the supernatural life in Christ and live in that realm—EVERY DAY!
He answered and said unto them, because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given (Matthew 13:11).
Those who don’t know God are quick to say, “His ways are not our ways, His thoughts are not our thoughts.” But for us who are born again, His ways are our ways. We’re born of Him, created in His image and His likeness. That means we look like Him, and we function like Him. Moreover, we have the same life and nature as Him.
1 Corinthians 2:16 says, “…But we have the mind of Christ.” He’s given us His thoughts, so we can think like Him. Ephesians 5:1 tells us to imitate Him. Hallelujah! Recall the words of the Master in our theme scripture: He said it’s our heritage to know the mysteries of the Kingdom
The description of His character is clearly unveiled to us in the Scriptures; you can tell who He is; you can describe God by Jesus Christ and know what to expect of Him. You can predict His response. He has revealed Himself and His will to us through His written Word and through the Holy Spirit. The Bible says He showed His ways unto Moses.
The only time He said, “My ways are not your ways” (Isaiah 55:8-9), which some people quote out of context, was because Israel, at the time, walked away from God’s ways. His desire is for our ways to correspond with His ways. He calls and invites us to walk in His way.
If He didn’t show us His ways, how could we walk in sync with Him? So, His ways aren’t mysterious; His ways are revealed to us in His Word. If you know Him as your Father, He is not a mystery anymore. Yes, He’s a mystery to the world and to those who don’t know Him, but we’re family; we’re His children. We live in His Kingdom, and we know His ways. Praise God.
