When The Right One Comes
Sometimes we may not even know that we are in the middle of miracles. One of them being the miracle of suddenly being with someone who sees you, understands you, and gets you.
The miracle of knowing that God may have finally given you the person you prayed for, dreamed of, manifested, or even fasted for, if finding your person was something that serious and spiritual for you, because people do all kinds of things when they are hoping to meet their person.
They pray.
They fast.
They write down what they want.
They imagine what their future relationship will look like.
They ask God for specific qualities.
They become intentional about dating.
They work on themselves.
They wait.
They leave relationships that are not right for them.
They try to become the kind of person who can actually sustain the kind of love they are asking for.
Sometimes, after all of that, you meet someone and start realising, Wait a minute. This person has so many of the things I asked for.
Maybe you wanted stability. Financial stability. Emotional stability. Physical stability. Maybe you wanted someone who was responsible with money, emotionally mature, physically affectionate, dependable, and capable of building a secure life with you.
Maybe you wanted someone kind. Patient. Loyal. Generous. Ambitious. Family-oriented. Protective. Romantic. Emotionally available. Honest. Intelligent. Funny. Spiritually grounded. Someone who communicates instead of disappearing. Someone who knows what they want. Someone who wants marriage. Someone who wants children. Someone who actually wants to build a home and a life rather than simply enjoy the relationship.
Maybe you wanted someone who would make you feel safe. Maybe you wanted someone who would choose you openly. Maybe you wanted someone who would encourage your dreams instead of competing with them. Maybe you wanted someone who would take care of you in the ways you had always hoped a partner would, and then maybe your partner has those qualities.
Maybe they are not perfect. Maybe they don’t look exactly like the person you imagined. Maybe there are things about them you never even thought to pray for because you didn’t know you needed them, but somehow, when you look at this person, you see so many of the things you once asked God for.
That can make you wonder whether you are looking at an answered prayer.
Of course, being “the one” is not about whether someone checks every box or whether everything feels magically perfect.
A person can have qualities you prayed for and still not be the right person for you, but sometimes there are signs in the way someone loves you, the way they live, the way the relationship feels, and the kind of person you become around them that make you stop and pay attention.
1. They have many of the qualities you specifically prayed for, and being with them brings you a peace you didn’t have before
Sometimes you can look at the person you’re with and realise that so many of the things you asked God for are sitting right in front of you. Maybe you prayed for someone financially stable, emotionally mature, physically affectionate, loyal, patient, generous, ambitious, family-oriented, or serious about marriage. Maybe you wanted someone who knew what they wanted, someone who was ready to build, someone who could communicate, someone who would be intentional about you.
Then you meet someone who has so many of those qualities.
They may not be perfect. They may not look exactly like the person you imagined when you were praying, but there are things about them that make you think, I remember asking God for this.
Perhaps one of the biggest differences is how you feel around them.
You feel unusually peaceful.
You aren’t constantly wondering where you stand.
You aren’t spending every night trying to figure out whether they still like you.
You aren’t reading into every text, waiting for them to pull away or wondering whether you have somehow become too much.
Their actions consistently match the kind of partner you asked God for.
If they say they care, you can see it. If they say they want something serious, their behaviour reflects it. If they say they want to build with you, they actually make decisions that move the relationship in that direction.
Sometimes the answer to a prayer doesn’t arrive with a big sign.
Sometimes it arrives as a person whose character, actions, and presence make you quietly realise, Maybe God really did hear me.
2. They make you feel seen, understood, and genuinely known. You can be completely yourself around them without constantly worrying that being vulnerable will push them away
There is a difference between someone being attracted to you and someone genuinely knowing you.
This person starts noticing the little things. They understand your moods. They remember things you told them. They know what makes you laugh, what makes you uncomfortable, what matters to you, and what you tend to do when you’re overwhelmed.
You don’t constantly feel like you have to explain yourself and, perhaps most importantly, you don’t feel like you have to perform.
You don’t have to be the most interesting version of yourself every time you’re around them. You don’t have to pretend you’re okay when you’re not. You don’t have to hide your insecurities because you’re terrified that once they see the less polished parts of you, they will change their mind.
You can tell them what you’re actually thinking.
You can admit that something hurt you.
You can let them see you when you’re tired, emotional, uncertain, or simply not having your best day.
Instead of feeling like vulnerability is going to make them lose interest, you slowly discover that being known actually makes the relationship deeper. You don’t just feel desired by this person. You feel understood.
There is a healing about realising that someone can see parts of you that you once thought made you difficult to love and still choose to stay.
3. You feel safe enough to receive love instead of always feeling like you have to earn it. You don’t feel like you have to chase, manipulate, or perform to keep their attention
Sometimes you don’t realise how much energy you have spent trying to make people love you until you meet someone who simply does.
You are used to proving yourself.
Maybe you are used to being the one who gives more, checks in more, tries harder, looks a certain way, says the right thing, or constantly makes yourself available because you are afraid that if you stop performing, the person’s interest will disappear. But with this person, you start learning that you don’t have to earn every bit of affection.
You don’t have to play games to keep them interested. You don’t have to pretend you don’t care so that they will chase you. You don’t have to make them jealous. You don’t have to constantly be impressive. You don’t have to wonder what version of yourself will make them stay. You can simply be loved.
Sometimes that can feel surprisingly uncomfortable at first because receiving love requires you to believe that you are worthy of it without constantly proving why.
You can let them care for you. You can accept their affection. You can tell them you miss them. You can allow yourself to need them sometimes. You can be soft. You can stop calculating every interaction because their interest in you isn’t dependent on how perfectly you perform.
The relationship starts teaching you that love isn’t supposed to be something you constantly chase.
4. They respect your boundaries, your values, your faith and the things that matter deeply to you
Someone can love you and still not respect the things that make you who you are.
That is why this matters.
When you tell this person that something makes you uncomfortable, they listen. When you set a boundary, they don’t make you feel guilty for having one. When you say no, they don’t try to wear you down until you eventually say yes.
They understand that your values are not obstacles they need to overcome.
If your faith is important to you, they don’t make you feel embarrassed about it. If family matters to you, they understand that. If you have certain beliefs about relationships, marriage, intimacy, or the kind of life you want to build, they don’t constantly pressure you to abandon those things just to make the relationship easier.
They may not agree with every single thing you believe, but they respect that these things are important to you, and sometimes you see their character most clearly when respecting you costs them something.
When they could pressure you but choose patience. When they could manipulate you but choose honesty. When they could dismiss your feelings but choose to listen. When they could make the relationship entirely about what they want but choose to consider what you need too.
That kind of respect creates a different kind of safety.
You don’t feel like you have to sacrifice yourself to keep the relationship.
5. You can talk about uncomfortable things without feeling like the entire relationship is going to fall apart
Eventually, every relationship has conversations that aren’t romantic.
You have to talk about money.
Marriage. Children. Family. Boundaries. Career plans. Where you want to live. Things that hurt you. Things you’re afraid of. Expectations you have for each other.
When this person is the one you’re building with, you don’t feel like bringing up a difficult subject is automatically going to destroy everything.
You can say, “I didn’t like what happened.”
You can say, “I’m worried about this.”
You can say, “I need something different from you.”
You can disagree. You can ask questions. You can tell the truth.
Even when the conversation is uncomfortable, there is still a feeling that the two of you are on the same side trying to understand each other.
They don’t have to agree with you every time. They don’t have to respond perfectly every time but there is a willingness to stay in the conversation because you know that if the relationship cannot survive honesty, then it cannot survive real life either.
The person you build a life with will eventually see you frustrated, disappointed, scared, and angry. You will see those things in them too.
So being able to have difficult conversations without immediately fearing abandonment is a beautiful sign that you may have found something different.
6. They care about your life outside the relationship and genuinely want to see you thrive. You can imagine building an ordinary life with them, not just experiencing romantic moments with them. When you think about the future, you don’t just see a person you love. You see someone you could genuinely build a life with
This person doesn’t want to be your entire life.
They want to be part of your life.
They care about your dreams. Your career. Your friendships. Your family. Your interests. The things you are working toward even when those things have absolutely nothing to do with them.
Your success doesn’t make them feel threatened. Your growth doesn’t make them feel like they’re losing you.
They genuinely want to see you become everything you are capable of becoming and eventually, you stop imagining only the romantic parts.
You don’t just picture vacations, dates, flowers, and beautiful nights together.
You start imagining ordinary life. Coming home after a long day. Running errands together. Making financial decisions. Taking care of each other when one of you is sick. Supporting each other’s careers. Going to family events. Having difficult seasons. Celebrating small wins. Growing older.
Maybe even sitting in the same room doing completely different things and still feeling content simply because you’re together.
That is when you realise you’re not just asking yourself, Do I love this person?
You’re asking, Can I build a life with this person?
The person you marry isn’t only going to be the person you go on romantic dates with. They are going to be the person you experience ordinary Tuesday mornings with. The person you make decisions with. The person you call when life becomes difficult.
When you can imagine sharing not only the highlights but also the ordinary, complicated, sometimes boring parts of life with them, you may be looking at something much deeper than romance.
7. They possess qualities you never knew to ask for but now realise you deeply needed
Sometimes the most beautiful parts of an answered prayer are the things you didn’t know to pray for.
Maybe you prayed for someone financially stable but didn’t realise how much you needed someone emotionally generous. Maybe you prayed for someone attractive but didn’t know how important it would be to have someone who makes you laugh when you’re having a terrible day. Maybe you prayed for someone ambitious but didn’t realise you needed someone who would still know when to put the work aside and be present with you.
Maybe you prayed for someone strong and eventually discovered that what you really needed was someone strong enough to be gentle.
Maybe you wanted someone who could provide, but then you realised how much it means to have someone who also notices when you’re overwhelmed and asks, “How can I help?”
These qualities weren’t necessarily on your original list because you didn’t know how much they would matter.
Then you experience them.
You realise that patience matters more than you thought.
Emotional safety matters.
A sense of humour matters.
Generosity matters.
The ability to apologise matters.
Being able to sit in silence together matters.
Knowing how to comfort you matters.
Being able to make you feel safe during difficult moments matters.
Being able to sit in a cuddle at a cinema watching a movie while periodically kissing, as if you are the only lovers in the world, matters
Sometimes God may answer the prayer you actually made while also giving you things you didn’t know enough to ask for, and you find yourself thinking, I didn’t even know I needed this.
Maybe that is part of the beauty of finding your person.
You don’t just meet someone who checks the boxes you wrote down.
You meet someone who introduces you to needs you didn’t know your heart had, and suddenly you understand why certain things never worked before, because sometimes you weren’t asking for the wrong person.
You simply hadn’t yet learned everything you needed in the right one.
