THE TWO CONTESTANTS (1ST KINGS 16: 21-22)

THE TWO CONTESTANTS (1ST KINGS 16: 21-22)

The President’s tenure was over.

Another President was to be elected…

There were 2 contestants for the exalted office from the 2 rival parties.

The parties held their conventions and picked their candidates: Omri and Tibni.

Then the campaign started in earnest…

Both candidates threw their all into it.

They held rallies all over the country to campaign for votes.

As Omri was flying from Simeon to Issachar to campaign, Tibni was flying from Naphtali to Zebulun to hold rallies.

The newspapers and blogs were filled with campaign adverts.

Banners and billboards were all over the country, urging the electorate to vote for one candidate over the other.

Both Omri and Tibni hired social media voltrons to promote their candidacy and throw dirt on the rival.

They campaigned aggressively and vigorously.

Both candidates threw decency to the wind: they must win by hook or crook!

They held nothing back: money was not a problem!

Bullion vans were seen entering the homes of both candidates frequently: both candidates were loaded to the hilt!

The electorate was enjoying the rivalry.

They felt like the average young lady who is being wooed by 2 men for marriage.

There were live debates on TV between Omri and Tibni.

They were running neck to neck as they approached the polls…

Then suddenly, something happened: Tibni died!

Woah!

Why did he die?

Was he ill?

No: he never flew to London for medicals, did he?

He seemed healthy!

What killed him?

“The people that followed Omri were stronger than the people that followed Tibni”, Scripture says.

“...So Tibni died and Omri became President!”

THE STRENGTH OF THE FOLLOWERS MADE THE DIFFERENCE!

Now, Tibni is your FLESH.

Omri is your SPIRIT.

Both are candidates in an election: to be president over your life!

They are both campaigning vigorously and aggressively to take over your life.

Which has stronger followers?

Tibni (FLESH)?

Omri (SPIRIT)?

If the followers of the FLESH are stronger than the followers of the SPIRIT, the FLESH prevails.

If the followers of the SPRIT are stronger than the followers of the FLESH, the SPIRIT prevails.

The stronger ALWAYS prevails.

The weaker ALWAYS dies.

Paul gave us an advice: “Walk in the Spirit, and you will not fulfil the lusts of the flesh” Galatians 5:16.

It’s YOUR call…

Shalom.
