Destiny Helper
Her life was a life of battle
It was what she was born into
It was what she experienced
Battle after battle
As a baby, it took a lot of help to
get her walking
She just couldn't muster the
strength and confidence other
children her age mustered to
rise up and walk
She crawled until she was 5
Many assumed she was a cripple
Her parents took her everywhere
Hospitals, churches, spiritualists,
specialists, mountains and grooves
Her parents weren't particularly
affiliated with one religion
They went anywhere and did anything
that they felt could bring them the
needed solution
They spent so much on her without
any result
Three days to her fifth birthday
her father came home with a cake
and told her he would throw the cake
in the dustbin on her birthday if she
didn't stand up and walk
She liked cakes and she had never
seen her father so angry before
She crawled to a chair and used it
as a prop
She stood to her feet and walked
with the sitting room chairs as her
prop all day
By the day she clocked five, she
was walking by herself
Th next challenge was greed
and stinginess
She wanted everything and she
was unwilling to part with anything
Her parents tried very hard to help
her deal with the habits but it got
worse
She started procastinating, becoming
lazier and lazier and lying a lot
Her parents had other children, her
younger ones
She hated all of them for taking her
parent's attention away from her
Again her parents took her to churches
for deliverance
She was extremely badly wired
She didn't like doing anything but
playing boss
She was plagued by a strong sense of
entitlement
Her mother's primary concern was
how she would turn out as she grew
up
She was very mean and selfish
When she was sixteen years old, she
got hit by a car on her way home
from school
She misjudged the distance of the
car and couldn't be bothered to
scamper to safety
She kept thinking "He must apply
the brakes for me as the car
approached until she got hit"
The driver said his brake failed
He was admitted in the hospital
for almost six months
Her mother couldn't believe her
condition was ordinary
Who walks on the highway hoping
drivers would apply brakes while she
took a leisurely walk?
What sort of dumb spirit was that?
She recovered from the accident
just in time to write her WAEC
She failed
She failed WAEC eight times
By the time she gained admission
into the university, all her young
ones had gotten admitted
She got admitted into the university
at the age of 25
Her immediate younger sister
graduated the same year
She always woke up heavy and
unwilling to live
She had told her mother that once
but she did so on a bad day
As soon as she finished talking, her
mother took hold of a broom and
flogged her mercilessly
Her mother called her an Ogbanje
Some sort of demonic child whose
joy was to bring her parents sorrow
She never mentioned it again but
that was her
Then she got a boyfriend
He was an artist
They met in church and he liked her
a lot
They had been together for a few
months when she saw him with another
lady
He was the one that invited her to meet
with him at a popular eatery not too
far from her parent's house
As soon as she got to the eatery, she
saw him and the lady talking in a
very familiar way
She didn't know what came over her
She charged into the restaurant and
pounced on the lady
By the time the mist cleared, it was
discovered the lady was his younger
sister
The relationship died that day
By the time she graduated, she was
thirty
She had an extra-year and graduated
with a third class
Getting a job became a problem
Her parents suggested Masters but
she was not interested in academics
anymore
She was not interested in business
too
She just wanted to be left alone
Her immediate younger sister and
brother had gotten jobs and moved
out of the house
They were both in good relationships
Things work for others but not for her
At the age of 32, she started learning
how to sow clothes
But she was slow of learning
Her trainer was a very impatient
woman who talked down on her and
made her feel less of herself
Her trainer was the sort of person
who believed in motivating her
apprentices with scathing words
After three months, she couldn't
take it anymore
She left
Her parents didn't know what to do
with her
She sat at home all day doing
nothing
Her father had practically washed
his hands off her
He doesn't talk to her or relate with
her in any way
He said she had given him a lifetime
of woes and sorrow
Her mother still tries to engage her
but it always feels forced
She knew she wasn't wanted in the
house
Her parents would prefer her to be
anywhere else but she had no place
to go
Then her cousin came to live with
them
Her cousin was a fresh graduate
who grew up in Calabar but was
posted to Lagos for NYSC
Her cousin was a very different
kinda girl
Her cousin was very outgoing and
connected
Her cousin had a lot of admirers
She clubbed and traveled a lot
Even though she was supposed to
be staying with them during the
duration of her NYSC
Her cousin was rarely around
She was eight years older than
her cousin
She was bored and depressed
She decided to ask her cousin for
help
She needed to spike up her social
life
Her parents really didn't care what
she did as long as she was doing
something
They were just tired of her stagnant
life
She started hanging out with her
cousin
It was fun
They would leave the house for a
whole week sometimes and return
with goodies
Her cousin was a runs girl
She learned the ropes quickly too
Some of her cousin's clients liked
older girls and they were willing to
spend
Within a year she had bought a car
Her parents became concerned
One Sunday morning, when they
returned home from one of their
runs, her parents sent her cousin
packing
That was the day she decided she
had to move out
She moved out a week later
Her cousin moved in with her
She was living the best seasons of
her life
Six months after moving out
She suddenly fell ill
It was a strange sickness, the type
doctors couldn't help out with
Maggots were coming out of her
private part
The affliction was also accompanied
by a stinking smell that provoked
many to vomit at will
Nobody could trace the origin of the
affliction
Her cousin took her to her spiritualists
They tried what they could but nothing
worked
After three months of a no cure verdict
Her cousin drove her to her parent's
house
She was close to 35 and she was still
a child of sorrow and woe to her parents
Her mother began to run around, trying
to save her daughter's life
The consensus was that she
had been used for ritual by one of the
clients introduced to her by her cousin
The brother in Jeans and T-shirt heard
about the case from her younger sister
It was after the monthly night of Glory
held at Theikos Doxa Evangelical Mission,
Surulere, Lagos
He was intrigued
An affliction that is causing someone
to decay from within?
It was worth a look-see!
Two days later, somewhere in Lagos
The brother in jeans and T-shirt met
her
Her parents were also at home
Her younger ones too
It almost felt like a farewell gathering
but God is a story changer
The Brother in Jeans and T-shirt led her
to Christ and told her he would fill her
with the power of the Holy Spirit
He told her that power will dislodge
the demons inside her body and
set free
He laid hands on her
As she got filled with the Holy Spirit
and started to pray in tongues
Her father began to scream
uncomfortably
"Leave me, leave me alone, Oh!"
What?
Her mother began to cry too
She said something was happening
to her legs
It was a strange turn of events
Her father said "See, Brother, dont
pray for her anymore, so that what
had been carefully woven together
wouldn't come undone"
The brother in Jeans and T-shirt told
them he was not the one praying for
their daughter
As they could see for themselves,
she had been filled with the Holy
Spirit and the Holy Spirit was the
one praying through her
Can she be stopped? Asked her mother
The brother in Jeans and T-shirt
shrugged
Her mother went to her to tap her
on the shoulder and rouse her from
the trance she was in while she
was praying
As soon as her mother touched
her, her mother began to scream
"Yeeeeee Yeeeeee Yeeeeee, help me,
please help me"
It was obvious they had a secret
they were all trying very hard to keep
It is not unusual
Families always have a secret or the
other they prefer to keep among
themselves
Every family does
It doesn't matter what it was
What matters was the fact that the
afflicted had been set free and
empowered to ward off future
attacks by the Holy Spirit
One hour and thirty minutes after
meeting her, the brother in jeans
and T-shirt left their house
She was still in the spirit, praying
fervently and oblivious of her
surroundings
He knew she was going to be very
fine
The following Sunday, her parents
came to see the Brother in Jeans
and T-shirt at the church
They thanked him for the full restoration
of their daughter
They said they wanted to know what
the Holy Spirit revealed about the
incidents that happened in their house
when he came to pray for their
daughter
He told them the Holy Spirit didn't
tell him anything
He prayed and left
They stood up to leave, her mother
started screaming and jumping
Her father said "Can you please
control this thing for us, it has been
happening to her since the day
you came to the house"
The brother in jeans and T-shirt said
you guys used your daughter for
a ritual
Both of you know about it
You go about acting pious and innocent
I gave you several opportunities to
come out clean and you're still
pretending
Do you think the Holy Spirit is a joker?
I left your house the other day because
i dont want the cord of love in your family
to be destroyed by your confession
It took you several days to come and
when you got here you were asking
me questions to try and find out what
I know and can say to others
You're like Ananias and Saphira and
I dont feel any sympathy for you.
If you have anything to say, this is the
time but if you choose not to tell the
truth, whatever happens to you is on
you
The wife sat down
She said "Before she was born, we
were told she was an empty destiny
by one of the wise men in my husband's
home time
We asked them what we can do and
we were told such children are meant
to be used to help the family's fortune
We were told she wouldn't live long and
if she did she wouldn't live a productive
life
We were also told she would be struck
by a mysterious ailment before dying
That was why we took their counsel
We thought it was for the best at that
time
Nobody told us things will get messy
like this"
Wow!
People who do not know God cannot
do right
Even their moral choices are tainted
The brother in Jeans and T-shirt
told them they need to come to Christ
and get forgiven
They also needed to be filled with
the Holy Ghost
They agreed and were led to Christ
PS: This event happened in Lagos
Nigeria in 2020
The lady owns a boutique somewhere
in Lagos and her business has been
very profitable
She will also be getting married in
December 2020
Her parents are also doing very well
Her story reminds me of the popular
Christian chorus "Destiny changer,
Destiny helper, Come and help my
destiny, my destiny today
Come and change my destiny,
my destiny today
Your name is Yahweh,
Your name is Yahweh, you're the
miracle-working God, your name is
Yahweh"
I pray for all those whose life seemed
to be heading nowhere, that you
will encounter the gospel and your
courses set right in the name of Jesus
