Snatched from the fire (2)
Bro Gbenga...God bless you for this message of gratitude. I was led astray from my first year in Secondary school at Calabar. We never used to enter class almost every day. We usually toured around the city from the airport to the beach and many dangerous locations until my dad noticed and sent me to his elder sister in the village to continue my education.
We never used to lack any food at home, but I got hit with the reality of life, farming, weeding, and all kinds of chores to survive laced with serious hunger. It was a struggle every time I visited for a holiday and never wished to go back there.
My father will never let me. I got arrested first time in my 17 years and at 19 I was detained for 3 months for an attempted murder case. I ran away only to resurface when my dad was arrested and threatened because the family of the boy I stabbed was doing well. My dad had to pay every medical bill for his surviving operations of six thousand naira on January 15, 1999.
The same month I was given admission to the Polytechnic Calabar. Bro Gbenga....my dad suffered and had given up hope of me furthering my education since all his savings were emptied into this case. But for his friend who encouraged him not to give up on me... And today I am what I am because he never gave up on a child whose neighbor will never have any of their children associate with.
I am burying him on the 13th of December 2024 and will ensure his life is celebrated as the best thing that ever happened to me after Jesus Christ.
