The Coincidence

The Coincidence

The girl was wearing a black spaghetti top
The strap of her pink bra contrasted well with her milky complexion
She had on her head a fluffy weave on
He paused right at the entrance of the supermarket
He didn't know if he should just turn back
He had seen the lady several times in the estate
He had always felt drawn to her
But she was one of those girls
Cleavage baring, heads full of ideologies but living empty lives
One of those types whose social media pages screamed "Men are scum"
But cried themselves to bed every night because they are single, lonely and desperate
Because they cannot keep a man, they decide to pretend they don't need one
They wear a made up face to the world
And cry to their own reflection in front of a mirror
One of those type of girls his mother warned him about
Girls who have seen the world in all sorts of colours
Girls who have mastered the art of seduction and manipulation from childhood
Girls whose assets are on full display for whosoever it may concern
She looked at him and smile
It was not a seductive smile, it was a polite smile that says "Why are you staring at me"
She had caught him with his eyes all over her
Even though his thought was not all over her
How would he explain to her that he was thinking about her but not about her
As in not about her body or sleeping with her
But about her and what danger she constituted to his rational thinking
He quickly averted his gaze
He couldn't turn back anymore
He walked into the supermarket
She has been crushing on the guy since forever
If she had the confidence, she would have chatted him up
She hated the fact that she had to stand there like a mannequin while waiting for him to make up his mind
He obviously wanted to get to know her
They had met several times in the estate
His eyes have said so much
Those eyes...
He bought what he had to buy
A bottle of Coke and a loaf of bread
The cashier told him they only use their POS for transactions of 500 naira or more
What he bought was only 250
She walked up to the cashier and told her she would pay for it
She turned to him and said "Hi, My name is So and so"
She extended her hand, he took it
And she could feel all his shyness melt away
He told her his name and thanked her
They walked out of the supermarket together
His car was parked about 100 meters away from hers
He followed her to her car
He told her he had seen her several times in the estate and always wanted to say hello
He never got around to doing so because he was scared
He was scared he wanted to say much more than hello
He really wanted to get to know her
But he was reluctant because ..........
He cautioned himself, he was talking too much
But her curiousity has been piqued
She wanted to know why he was reluctant
He wanted to dodge the bullet but she was adamant he must bite it
In the end, they agreed to have lunch the next day
By their fifth date, he had come to realize she was not one of those girls
He had misjudged the book by its cover
She was not in a relationship by choice
She had many admirers
She told him she knew the right guy would eventually come around
She didn't want to be jumping from man to man when she was sure the right one would come
He wondered why she was so confident she would get the right guy
She said she was sure she would know him when she met him
They became very close
He dragged her to church
She came from a Christian family but church was a choice for her
He was born into another religion and switched to Christianity as an undergraduate
For him church was a must because his previous religion didn't give him a choice
She was shocked to discover she was full of the Holy Spirit and took God seriously
She grew up in the Bahamas with her parents and recently relocated to the country
She had a totally different orientation and mentality
His parents loved her more than he did
Sometimes his mother would go shopping with her and they would be gone for the whole day to his chagrin
They got married three years after their encounter in the supermarket
One year and three months after they got married
He was suddenly diagnosed of a strange illness
He went to three hospitals at home and abroad
The doctors said he had two years to live
They called it cancer of the Kidney
He couldn't believe it
But she was a fighter!
She refused the diagnosis
She said "You brought me to this God of yours and you told me He is a miracle working God,
I believed you and I gave my life to your God!
You will live!
You must live!
He tried to reason with her, explain to her that salvation was for the spirit, not the body
She was adamant
She bought books, read healing scriptures to him every night
She laid hands on him even he was asleep, praying in tongues
She invited fellow believers from their church and her office
She was convinced he would not die
One day she met the brother in Jeans and T-shirt
At the same supermarket where she met her husband
She was there to get some groceries
He was there to get some chocolates for his wife
They were queued behind a man who was very ill
The man was perspiring and his eyes were very red
He was paying for some antibiotics he bought at the pharmacy
He had been diagnosed with Corneal Ulcer
The Brother in Jeans and T-shirt asked the man if he could pray for him
Right there in the supermarket
The man was obviously in grave discomfort, he nodded
The brother in Jeans and T-shirt lai hands on him and commanded the infection to be healed in Jesus name
She was watching him with rapt attention
As he was praying, he paused and asked the man to open his eyes and look around
"What are you experiencing now?" He asked the man
"The discomfort is going down, i'm getting better sir" replied the man
He laid hands on the man the second time and said "I want a 100% miracle here now in Jesus name"
And that was it!
The man was jumping and screaming like a giddy billy goat
Her heart almost jumped out of her mouth!
She paid for her groceries and waited for the Brother in Jeans and T-shirt outside the supermarket
When he came out, she approached him
"Sir, are you a Christian? Was that a miracle I just witnessed?
He: I am a believer and yes that was a miracle
She: Wow! I desperately need a miracle now
He: I can pray for you right away
She: No, not me, my husband! He is at home, our eyes is about 10 minutes drive from here
He: Okay, I will follow you home
He drove right behind her vehicle
As she drove home, she prayed in tongues
Was it a coincidence that she went to the supermarket at that time?
Was it a coincidence that a sick man came right to the cashier when he did?
Was it a coincidence that the Brother in Jeans and T-shirt was at the supermarket at the same time?
When they got to her house, her husband was in the sitting room
He was watching a replay of a premier league match on supersports
The brother in Jeans and T-Shirt sat down and told her to lay hands on her husband
He said: So that you will know that you have always had the power to make him better,
through the Holy Spirit, I want you to be the one to pray for him
She prayed!
He said some words and she repeated them after him
They were normal English words, he didn't even pray in tongues!
They prayed the first time, then they repeated the same prayer the second time
The brother in Jeans and T-shirt told her not to remove her hands from her husband's body
He asked her husband some normal questions
"How are you now, are you feeling anything?"
Her husband said "Not yet"
Then the Brother in Jeans and T-shirt touched her husband on the forehead
Her husband shot out of the chair and bolted for the door!
He was screaming like a striker who just scored a goal
Suddenly he fell on his face
Both she and the Brother in Jeans and T-shirt were caught by surprise
Five minutes later, her husband opened his eyes and stood up by himself
He had been completely healed!
Her faith paid off!
Hallelujah!

PS: Her husband has now been healed for four years
He never went back to the hospital to confirm his healing
He just lived on and continued to share his testimony to all and sundry
He hosts a House fellowship in his house and is heavily involved in evangelism in his church
She said she knew what people would say if she had become a young widow
All those who laughed at her when she became a Christian would have mocked her
She knew God brought help to her the very moment she needed it
