The Mousetrap

It was the lure of fast cash that prompted him
He wanted to have all the good things of life without struggle
He was born into wealth and affluence
Money was not an issue for his parents
His father was a businessman who got a lot of contracts from the military governments
His company supplied the Uniforms and camouflage for the Army 
His father made tons of money dealing with the military government
Most of the contracts were inflated to line the pockets of the powers that be
His father was a very astute businessman 
He invested his earnings in real estate 
He bought lands and built houses all over the city
But a masquerade festival does not last forever
The military government gave way to democracy
The source of profligacy was shut down
His father's contract was revoked
The civilian government have other interests to please
His father's assets were probed
Most of the liquid cash that was ion his father's account was frozen
There was more than enough evidence that his Father's wealth had a K-leg!
Most of his Father's landed properties were purchased in the extended family name
The family was a very successful one
His father's elder brother was once a governor, albeit for only three months
The politically motivated probes were not extended beyond the cash in the bank
His Father was able to raise cash selling land and renting out some of his houses!
But there is money and there is money!
The money they had before the civilian government took over was correct money 
His Father had three wives and sixteen children
All the children had a car, even the youngest of them!
All the children had a driver and an orderly!
All the children below the age of sixteen had governesses!
All the children above the age of sixteen schooled abroad!
All the children travel out of the country for holidays at least three times a year
All the children got a #5,000,000.00 pocket money monthly
Their father's safe was always full of dollars
They wear the best and roll with the best
But after the civilian government took over, the orderlies had to go
The governesses had to go!
Things weren't so bad but it was difficult for him especially to adjust 
It is not a good thing for a billionaire to become a multi-millionaire 
It is not good for the "have in abundance" to become "the have more than enough"
There was a status to wealth and it seemed to him like they were no longer "seven stars" in wealth status!
His father used to have account managers who managed the funding of the children's school fees
To his dismay, his father sacked those account managers and started managing the fund by himself                                                                 
To him, that was the height of poverty!
His father talking about managing funds more effectively!
Managing! Managing!!
Not a word in their vocabulary since he was born!
They had never managed anything
They have always had everything in abundance!
A year after the civilian government took over, the probe of his father's wealth was extended to his landed properties 
Their landed  properties were seized by the government, the estates under construction and lands
The investigators claimed they traced a certain amount of money into the account from which the funds for the purchase of the lands were disbursed!
Things became more difficult!
That was when he decided that enough was enough!
He was only twenty-one years old at the time and the seventh child of his father (Third from the second wife)
He just couldn't accept the way things were going
He went to his Father to have a heart to heart discussion
He wanted to know if his father had an ace up his sleeves
What was the plan?
Was there any method to this insanity?
His Father told him categorically that there was none 
His father explained that his licenses had been seized due to the  investigations and unless the licenses were released and his properties restored to him, they wouldn't be poor but they would have to do without a lot of luxuries
He decided he had to help himself
He had met a young man when he was in business school abroad
The young man was a computer guru who specialized in writing certain types of codes and hacking financial institutions
He found his way to the young man's house
He wanted to make quick money through cyberfraud!
The young man was willing to show him the way
The young man had a successful network of cyber-fraudsters under his tutelage 
They do nothing but stay online chatting up prospective clients on the social media networks 
They live in a very expensive mansion and drive very expensive cars!
They live the free money life without consequences 
They dress the way they want, eat what they want, do whatever they desire, go clubbing all night and are hitting the heavy money big time!
The young man was so connected that he had key people (Bank staff) inside all the banks to facilitate clearing his loot
He also had connections in neighboring countries where he can divert money to for easy clearance 
He settled down and started learning!
He had a lot of rich contacts both at home and abroad whose details he knew and could access with a little help
He made his first big cash within six months

It was from an old teacher of his in Switzerland, he was able to leverage on
some details he knew about her to pull off the con
That night there was a wild party in the mansion
He was feted and toasted
He consoled himself that his victim was most likely insured and she would recover after some time
He did other jobs within that time frame too 
He was quite good at it
The total amount of money that came to him was about #50,000,000.00
He invested it and soldiered on
One night, his friend told him there was a faster way to make the victims pay
He was so eager to make more money that he agreed to swear an oath to keep the secret, secret!
After the oath, he was taken to the basement of the mansion! There he saw all sorts! 
Guys chatting with victims with all sorts of charms like sequenced handkerchiefs, rings, live tortoise, snake, neck chains and so on
The ultimate he saw that night were young ladies, between the ages of 16 and 25, in a red room! 
All on their knees bearing calabashes of money!
He didn't know what to think! 
He met the guy abroad and could never think he would be aware of such hideous practices not to talk of engaging in such 
"Are those girls dead?" He asked, barely managing to steady his voice
"No, they are with their parents, struggling to live while we milk their fortunes and virtues! Some of them would die soon others will die later.
But what does it matter, the aim is to hit billions in every currency of the world!
He couldn't explain what happened to him afterward!
He started shivering from within! 
He could barely stand!
What had he seen?
The next morning he collapsed mysteriously!
His friends rushed him to the hospital and abandoned him there!
He was there, in a coma for two months!
The doctors diagnosed his condition as Bacterial Meningitis! 
His elder sister called the Brother in Jeans and T-shirt, she told him her brother was in a coma with a strange disease
The Brother in Jeans and T-shirt prayed for him over the phone!
They didn't see any change immediately
The Brother in Jeans and T-shirt went to the Hospital the next day!
He was out of the coma but was talking incoherently!
The Brother in Jeans and T-shirt laid hands on him and prayed!
He recovered and told his story!

PS: He is still in the hospital at the moment 
The event is unfolding somewhere in Lagos
The cheese and the mousetrap belongs to the devil
You cannot have the cheese without the consequences of the trap
Do not delude yourself by thinking nemesis will somehow overlook you
Don't say, "I don't care about consequences, I just want to enjoy my life"
