Cheating Death

Her mother had a place she goes to
for spiritual insight
A prophet she met during her years
at the mission house
The prophet told her how her life
journey would go
He told her she would meet a man
who would love her with the whole
of his heart and do whatever she
wanted for her
He also told her she would not grow
old with the man
He said she would grow old alone
She asked the prophet what would
happen to the man
The prophet said he would be dead
He said she had a destiny that is
compatible only with a man with a
short life span
She rejected it
She went to the altar of her patron
saint and declared that she wanted
a change of destiny
She wanted a husband she would
grow old with
Eventually, her husband found her
He was a graduate who was writing
the final stage of ACCA examination
His younger sister was throwing a
party for her twenty-first birthday
His younger sister invited some
friends
One of the friends asked her to come
along
She had mixed feelings about the
party
For starters, she and the celebrant were
not on talking terms
They were in the same group in
church but they don't have any rapport
Secondly, she was twenty-three years
old and the lady was just clocking
twenty-one
She didn't want any form of familiarity
that will lead to an insult
She liked to place herself in a position
of respect
Some of her other friends were dying to
attend the party
The celebrant was the last of seven 
children
She was the only girl and all her older
brothers were handsome and single
Nobody said it out loud but it was
not because of the celebrant that
they were all eager to attend the 
party
It was a hunting expedition
Husband hunting expedition
When they got to the party venue, the
place was overcrowded
It seems the celebrant had planned
something small while the crowd
had something bigger in mind
The main party was going on in the
sitting room while the crowd milled
everywhere
She felt very silly for leaving the
comfort of her M&B novels for such
a quiet ill planned event
It took her five minutes to make up
her mind to return home
Her estate was just six minutes walk
away
She had never liked gatecrashing
parties
Just as she exited the street where
the celebrant's parent's house was,
she met the celebrant's brother
He was coming from the football field
close to the estate
He had his soccer boots tied together
and draped across his shoulder
He walked straight to her and said
"Is the party over? Are people leaving
already?"
He said it with such a familiarity that
she almost felt as if they had known
each other before that day
She told him she was leaving because
of the crowd
He smiled and said "Come along,
I will get you in"
She couldn't explain why she followed
him 
Perhaps because he didn't bother to
ask for her opinion 
When they got to their main gate
he just walked right past it to the 
small gate on the other side
Nobody paid them any attention
He opened the gate with his key
and they walked in
Once they got into the compound
she realized she was in a fix
Her other friends were still outside
and she didn't recognize any of the
faces she was looking at in the 
compound
She found somewhere to sit wondering
why she didn't just go home as
she planned when he emerged
in his party attire
He walked straight to her, took her
by the hand and led her into the
sitting room
He introduced her to everybody as
his friend
That was how they started
he took her home after the party
Then he checked up on her the 
following day and the whole thing
became a boyfriend, girlfriend thing
He proposed six months later, on
Christmas day
She said yes!
Wedding plans commenced
His mother went to pray and they
told her he doesn't have long to
live
His mother didn't say a word about
the prophecy to anybody
She only ensured the wedding 
happened as soon as possible and
encouraged them to start having
children as soon as possible
He was a bookkeeper with the 
recreation club at the time
He was also a postgraduate student
at the University
He was studying for his masters
in Economics
They had three children within
the first five years of their marriage
His mother encouraged them to
do what they had to do on time
He got a job with People's bank
when he was thirty-five
Like the bank, the job didn't last
long
He got another job with Cooperative
bank
He was posted to a branch in the rural
area
He was shot and killed three years
later during a bank robbery
It was the most abrupt and unexpected 
end
Nobody was really ever prepared for
the death of a loved one
She was thirty-four when he died
She was pregnant with her fourth
child
The burial ceremony was hell for her
Her life was practically grounded to
a halt
For about four years, all she did was
live in a bubble
His mother and brothers helped
out with the children
She knew no lack
They encouraged her to find love 
again but she was just too emotionally 
tired to live beyond survival for many
years
She found herself fighting depression
three times a year
His birthday
Their wedding anniversary and
the day he died
His mother told her about the prophecy
on the fifth year anniversary of
his death
His mother told her she shouldn't
die because he did 
His mother said his death was 
predestined
His mother told her it was as a result
of the prophecy that she pushed their
wedding and encouraged them to
have children as soon as possible
She also remembered what she was
told at the mission house in her teens
That chapter of her life opened like
a storm and closed like an oyster
It lasted barely 10 years
She never remarried
She took discreet lovers intermittently
from age 38 to age 50
Her children grew fast
By the time she was fifty-three her
first child brought home a lady he
wanted to marry
She went to the prophet in the mission
to pray about it
The prophet told her the lady had a
short life span
The prophet also told her that her son
was exactly like her
Someone whose destiny would only
settle for someone with a short life
span
Wow!
She knew what she had suffered as a
widow  since her husband died
Although she married into a rich
family and her needs and that of the
children were met comfortably
Yet, to live alone without a companion
was tough
Even if all they did was fight and
argue
It beats being alone and empty
She told her son what the prophet
said
She warned him not to marry the lady
but her son was in love and wouldn't
listen to any naysayer
She went back to the prophet asking
what they could do as a remedy
The prophet told her to prepare to buy
a coffin with the wedding materials
He said the lady her son wanted to
get married to was already pregnant
and would die in the course of the 
pregnancy or while giving birth to 
the baby
That was her destiny
When she got home she asked her
son if he had gotten the lady pregnant
Her son said yes!
She began to weep
If the prophet can see the pregnancy,
surely he has seen the end of the whole
issue
She had prayed and pleaded with
God not to let any of her children
go through the torture of bereavement
Why should their family be the one
with such an odd pattern?
She decided to visit the parents 
of the young lady involved
She wanted to let them know she
was not in support of the union and
wouldn't allow the wedding until 
after she delivers her baby
It was her best option
Dodge the bullet by keeping the
lady in her parent's house so that
if she died as prophesied, people
really wouldn't know about it
She was determined not to label
the family with a tag of death
It will discourage suitors from
coming around the family
One death was a mishap, once it
becomes a recurring event, it
becomes a stigma
She shared her idea with her second
son
Her second son felt they needed to
talk to someone
He reached out to the Brother in Jeans
and T-shirt 
He shared everything that had gone
on before
The Brother in Jeans and T-shirt visited
their home in Ogba, Lagos State, the
following weekend
The entire members of the nuclear
family were there
The mother, her four children and the
pregnant spouse of the first child
The spouse said the prophecy of
untimely death had plagued her all
her life
There was no church she had been
to and no prophet she had seen that
didn't prophesy that she wouldn't
live to see the age of thirty
The brother in Jeans and T-shirt 
laughed
He told them how eternal life works
He said "When you give your life
to Christ, you become a new creature!
You receive the Holy Spirit into your
spirit, you receive the mind of
Christ, you become a Christkind
Your Spirit controls your body and
therefore it is what your spirit tells your
body that your body must do
Death no longer has any power over
you, neither do sickness or sin
The born again is translated out of
darkness into light and his or her
words become spirit and life
The meeting lasted for fifty-seven
minutes
They all accepted Jesus Christ as
their Lord and Saviour and received
the baptism of the Holy Spirit
The Bother in Jeans and T-shirt told
them life and death lies in their mouth
and not with a prophecy or nature
If you speak life, you live
If you speak death, you die
Your path in life is paved by the 
words of your mouth!
He told the couple, especially the lady
to confess life, bliss, joy, health
and peace every moment with the 
words of her mouth and to pray in
the spirit as often as possible every
day!
It was a destiny transforming 
experience
Learning to live the Spirit-led life 
from above absent of religion
He told them they need not run
from pillar to post seeking help
anymore
They have received the helper
Jesus promised and must learn
to walk with him.
This happened on September 3, 
2019
The prophecy failed woefully
She delivered her baby by Caesarian
Operation in March 2020
Both the mother and the baby lived
I was awakened by Olaitan's screams
of joy this morning
September 4 is Olaitan's Birthday
She clocked 30 years today
She is dwelling in the light perpetually
and the fear of death and evil 
prophecies had become a thing of 
the past!
She had scaled the hurdle of death
through child-bearing and also the 
hurdle of death before thirty!
She confessed that she had been 
sleeping without waking to panic
attacks or sudden rear and anxiety
She is inundated with light

There is a reality that we walked in
while in Adam
Walking in Christ is another reality
entirely
Christ is the light that lit up all those
who came to him out of darkness
He is the life that birthed believers
out of death into eternal life
He is the stripe that took away all
the infirmities, afflictions, and diseases
of those upon whom his name has
been named
He is the power and the reality of
all those who are called by his name
Keep your eyes upon JESUS
Stop doubting your reality
You live because He lives
Christ in you is the manifestation
of eternal life
Hallelujah!

PS:   The fear of death proves
the absence of love
Are you living in constant fear of
death?
Have you experienced a trauma
that has rendered you impotent
due to fear and dread?
Is there a prophecy of doom hanging
over your head and awaiting
manifestation
Fear can only birth terror and
torment
God is love and in Him there is no
darkness
Come to Jesus today, and get 
flooded with light
Some preach a Jesus of mere words
The Jesus I have come to know
and walk with is so real and so
powerful
Your life will be transformed 
immediately you yield to him
You don't have to suffer in silence
A prophet or spiritualist shouldn't
put you in a cloud of fear
In Christ, you have eternal liberty

that we can walk in sync with
the Holy Spirit at all times
