Cretinous

It was the Havana night party that 
brought them together
An event he saw as a distraction and
has steeled himself not to attend
His roommates, on the other hand, couldn't
stop talking about it
Two of them travelled home to "lie" to
their parents in order to get some money
to buy tickets for the show
It was the "Night" to talk about for the session!
The who is who in the school will be there!
Of course, the religious fanatics tagged
it the night of the anti-christ and armageddon
But people will always prefer the thrill of
sin to the blandness of self-righteousness!
Religion couldn't offer a better alternative!
The great "Fela Anikulapo-Kuti and the Egypt 80
were coming to town!
Ticket prices soared as the day approached!
He was resolved not to attend for only one reason!
He couldn't afford it!
He didn't tell anybody that
He was too proud to admit it
He just told everybody he needed to study
and wished them well as they trooped out of
the hostel!
The show was billed to start by 10pm
The hostel had grown as quiet as a graveyard
by 8pm as almost every student trooped
to the venue of the show
He had dinner and laid down to sleep
At around 11 pm, one of his roommates 
returned to the room
The roommate explained that he was in a fix
and needed his help
"See Bro, do you remember my babe, the 
one from the College of Education in Oyo,
she is around! I bought tickets for the show
and invited her to be my date! The problem is
she came with another friend!
Three is a crowd!
I had plans for that babe!
She had always been doing this thing!
Coming to see me with extra baggage all
the time!
We have been dating for two years
She says she likes me and wants to be with
me and yet she pulls this stunt always
But this time I was prepared
I bought four tickets to the show
All I want you to do is take the other girl
and keep her company
So that I will have time to enjoy some
honey from my babe!
Do you get?"
It was an offer no sane 19-year-old boy
would ever refuse!
Free ticket and free babe!
He jumped on his feet like a pardoned 
turkey!
He showered and dressed up within five 
minutes!
His roommate gave him two tickets
They went to the waiting room outside
the hostel and joined their dates
The lady his roommate came to the school
with was a beauty!
They got along almost immediately!
The Havana night show was smashing
At a point during the show, the atmosphere
became very frenzied 
Everywhere he turned, he saw lovers
kissing, rubbing, groping, sucking
It was like being right in the middle of
an orgy
He had been a little cautious with the lady
he was dancing with
They were practically strangers
But the suggestive postures all around him
made him a little bolder
He became more daring
He grabbed her waist
He expected her to wriggle away and give
him the bad look
She didn't!
She rubbed against him seductively!
They danced on until at a point he couldn't
hold himself anymore
He pulled her into a dark corner and within
minutes his hot knife was slicing through
her butter
By 5 AM the next morning the show was over
They saw the ladies off and returned to the
hostel
He never saw her again!
He graduated and got married
He started a family and established his 
own law chambers
He became the pastor of a church
One morning, seventeen years later
A young lady walked into his office claiming he
was her father
The lady was armed with the story of that Havana
night!
She said her mother had travelled abroad to study
a few weeks after the Havana night 
(She was a student of the college of education
for just a semester before she was offered 
admission to study International Relations
at a University in France)
Her mother couldn't announce her "situation" 
in part because she believed her parents would 
have cut her off if they found out she was 
pregnant! 
That would have been the end of her education
On the other hand, she knew virtually nothing 
about the person responsible for the 
pregnancy! She had to call her friend (The one
they went to the Havana night together) in order
to remember his name after she discovered she
was pregnant!
It would have been too much of a bombshell
for everybody involved and she would have
brought too much shame to her family!
The admission to a school in a faraway country was her "saved by the bell" moment!
After graduation, her mother settled in France!
Her mother got married and had other children
But she had always been curious about her 
real father!
When her mother's father died and they had
to return home for the burial, 
she made her mother tell her everything!
As soon as she got the details of his name
and address, she decided she had nothing to lose
if she paid him a visit
That was why she showed up!
She didn't want anything, she just wanted to 
meet her father and see his face while she still 
had the opportunity!
He was shocked!
There was no way he could ever forget the Havana
night incidence
It was the day he lost his virginity and it 
was in such a spectacular manner!
He could barely recall the face of the lady
They met at night and parted in the dark
It was the wildest night of his life!
He looked at the lady carefully! 
She resembled him!
Even had his "small" earlobes
They exchanged contacts and she left
Her visit changed everything!
He knew he ought to tell his wife but
he couldn't!
What would he say?
His wife was the insecure type
The excessively jealous type who saw ghosts
everywhere
Every lady who comes for counselling wanted
to snatch her husband
Every man wanted to borrow money and
take advantage of his good heart
She would get moody over little things
Looking for signs and signals where there
was none
He had never cheated on her but he wouldn't
hear the end of her "You wanted to cheat, if
not for God" episodes
Church members were wary of her and her
nasty attitude to everybody
It was always about the "self" and the "me"
with his wife
His wife had two lovely daughters aged 12 
and 10
The doctors had advised them against 
having more children because of the 
complications his wife experienced during the 
birth of the second child!
His wife was not happy about it
Always insinuating that he would get 
somebody pregnant one day who would
give him a boy and as a consequence, he would
disinherit her daughters!
She had a lot of conspiracy theories in her 
head!
He knew it would be best to tell her
But he couldn't bring himself to do it!
She was always tethering on the edge of a mental
breakdown and he didn't want to push her
off the cliff!
Years went by
His children grew older
The lady got married in France
She sent him pictures and they exchanged 
messages
The lady gave birth to a son and named the 
boy after him
He was flattered and sent her some money
for the "name" as was their custom
Somehow (He didn't know how) his wife saw 
the exchange! (He couldn't tell when or how)
His children were in the boarding school
He went to work in the morning
When he returned home in the evening
He met his wife hanging from  a ceiling fan
He called the neighbours
He wondered what happened
Then he saw the suicide note
"Take care of my children
I know I failed you by not giving you a son
I saw the picture of your babe and son
in France
I have always known that would be your 
way out
You will settle yourself and leave me to
my fate!
I cannot think of a future without you
and I will not live and pretend all is well
I considered everything and decided
it is better to quit before I get thrown
into the street and mocked by my
enemies!
I am sorry it had to come to this!
You should bring her home and make her
your wife
I know that would be your joy now that
I am gone!
Make sure my children do not suffer!
Tell them I love them so much!
Goodbye!"
She didn't even give him the room to explain
that the baby she saw was his grandson
That the secret had eaten him up badly
but he couldn't share because he knew she 
would lose it!
She died at the age of 44
He buried her and moved on!
He introduced his daughters to their sister
in France and they took to her with joy!
Three years later, his daughters introduced
him to one of their teachers
She was forty years old
She was single and had never been married
His daughters loved her and encouraged
him to marry her
He did!
He was forty-seven years old when he 
remarried!
On the 16th of June, 2018
his wife delivered a set of twin boys!

It is equally important to see the world for
what it is
A fleeting, temporary speck of nothing
Don't take too much to heart
Don't be overly concerned by the opinion
of other people
Make God the centre of your life and not 
yourself!
There is nothing new under heaven
