Happenstance?

Happenstance?

She:

Does it make any sense?

Because I got pregnant in the university and refused to abort the child, I will have to be damaged good or soiled dove for the rest of my life.

If I had aborted, I would most likely by now be rewarded with a good man, a lovely home and all the fine things of life.

Just think about it!

My mother said I should bring my son to her and relocate. No man wanted the problems associated with women like me. A social reject whose only crime was having sex before I got married and being stupid enough to get pregnant and not commit abortion

I know many people who did that! Many who had as many as eight abortions who are today happily married! Our churches celebrate them, old things passed away for them and all things became new. Some of them are even Deaconesses, even Pastors, but for people like me, old things remained despite the fact that I am also born again!

I also know many women who did what my mother suggested. Pretend to be single and unattached, marry a man and settle the issue of deceit afterwards. The problem with that is simple, your entire life becomes a lie! No matter how much you try to explain it away, it is selfish and ungodly

Is one regret not enough for me in a lifetime?

I have had many suitors, they pursued me with vigor until I told them about my seven year old son. They always acted as if I told them I had leprosy. The enthusiasm waned immediately and I find myself hugging my pillow and crying bitterly

What I need now is a good man sir, a husband from any tribe, creed or language who will accept me as I am and love me totally.

I am an asset, I have a good job and good investments. I am also a godly woman who will love and support my husband all the days of our lives

Please sir, I need your help!

The pastor calmed her down, assured her there is nothing God cannot do.

They prayed

That evening the pastor called one of his parishioners who had relocated abroad to study for over three years.

He told him about the 27 years old single mother

The brother, 30, was single and requested to get to know the lady

The pastor made it happen

They got talking

The brother came home

They met

Plans went into gear

The brother’s relatives reside in the northern part of the country

He took her to meet with them two months to the wedding

That evening, some of his old friends came to visit

The father of her child was one of them

It was a shock to see him

They were both twenty years old when she got pregnant

He came to do something in the south

Stayed with one of his friends at the male hostel

She met him at a business center

He was making some photocopies and she was in a bit of a jam

There was a presentation she had to do and the materials she needed just came in

If she waited to do the photocopies she would miss the lecture

The lecturer had a rule

No student can come into class once she came in

The presentation was ten marks

He collected the documents, did the photocopies and brought them to her class just in time for her presentation

When the lecturer raised an eyebrow, he told the lecturer that he worked at the business center and gave her student the wrong material by mistake. The lecturer was moved by his honesty and allowed him to give her the presentation materials

And then he stayed close by for the class to end

He asked her about her presentation

She did well

He was happy

He asked if he could walk her back to her hostel

She was the first student she was talking to on campus

He had been around for a week

He came to their campus from the north

He was a political science student

Came to attend the opening parliamentary session of the state’s house of Assembly

He was a great guy

By the time he came to take her to dinner that evening, she had decided to sleep with him

It was just a foolish whim

But it happened

Then it happened again the next day

And the next

She couldn’t get enough of him especially since he would be leaving in a short while

They always used a condom

She had never had unprotected sex in her life

She saw him off on the day he left

Collected his phone number

Called him a few hours later to find out how the journey was progressing

Then everything went dark

His number was no longer going

She didn’t know what to make of it

She searched all over the social media

Looking for him to no avail

She didn’t expect she would get pregnant

But she did

And that was that!

Immediately she saw him, her heart leapt!

He screamed for joy

Hugging her tight

The brother was shocked they knew each other

The excitement got the better of her

She said “He is the father of my son”

It was as if she rang the angelus bell

Everybody froze!

The brother’s family members and his friends didn’t know she had a son

They had planned to tell them during the family meeting that night

Even the friend didn’t know he had a son

Whoa!!!

The moment passed

That night during the family meeting, the brother’s mother suggested that they let her and the father of her child have a proper discussion. She is a woman and the circumstances suggested a need for proper closure

The brother agreed

She cried!

What does that mean?

The brother laughed and said “Do you know anything about the story of Ruth? Let us call me Boaz! My friend is single and doing very well, you both love each other and there are circumstances here we cannot ignore. Have a serious heart to heart with him. If after you reconciled the situations around your circumstances you both decide you are not for each other, I will marry you. Not out of pity but because I love you!

If you both work things out and decided to marry each other, I will be the best man and I will be happy because I love you

If I claim you as my own and prevent you from closing that chapter one way or another, I would have failed my conscience

She listened.

She didn’t understand but she agreed

The father of her son explained that their bus was attacked by Boko Haram, he escaped into the forest. He lost his phone.

It took him twelve days before he got to another city in the north. A church paid his transport fare back to Kaduna. He was in the hospital for many weeks thereafter. He also tried searching for her on the social media but he couldn’t find her

They talked about his son and her plight

They talked about his job and his life

They talked and talked

She spent two weeks in the north

By the time they returned, the wedding was cancelled!

Six months later, the father of her son relocated to the south

They got married a year later

Their son was the ring bearer and the brother was the best man

PS: She had a slight delay conceiving but now carries her second child for the father of her son

The brother got married two years later. His marriage is blessed with three children

Her reconciliation story was on some TV channels and documentaries

God’s ways are simply unsearchable!
