They were not supposed to get married
Their families forbade it
His family especially insisted they would
wash their hands off him if he went ahead
with the marriage
He begged them with everything he could
The lady had done nothing wrong in the
matter
She was his divine soulmate
She found him on the streets of Belgium
He had found his way into Europe without
telling anybody in his family
His father thought he was going off to
school to study civil engineering
That was the lie he told to get his flight
ticket money from his father
He failed his WAEC exams woefully and
knew if he took the exams ten times,
he wouldn't pass
His father was non-literate and so was
his mother
Both of them were determined to raise
lawyers and doctors and engineers
He was the fourth son, and the only one
inclined to study
His older ones gave up in primary school
but he pushed till the end of secondary
school
It was a big deal
He was the first-ever to achieve such in
their family
And though he was two years older than
his peers when he did it
His father celebrated it with great joy
His father was a relatively wealthy man,
he sold car spare parts
That was how the battle to pass WAEC began
He wrote it with and without help
He always failed
After the fourth attempt, a friend told him
to get a pre-degree form to study civil
engineering
Before then his father had placed him as
an apprentice with a local draughtsman
to practice his passion
He got the form and sat for the examination
again
He failed
He was tired of writing the exams but his
father refused to let him quit
So he discussed with a friend and they began
to make plans of traveling abroad
Somehow they got the right connection
and he got a visa
The problem was flight ticket fare
He came up with a plan
He forged a letter of admission and
presented it to his father
His father handed him the "Acceptance fee
and school fees" within three days
He paid for the ticket & left for "school"
That was how he found himself in Belgium
He got to the airport in Belgium and
managed to make it beyond the immigration
officers in one piece
He took a taxi to a hotel and checked in
He had no plans beyond traveling
He had just a few Euros to last for a week
On day three, he checked out of the hotel
It made no sense to stay on
He got a job at a night club close to the hotel
as a cleaner
He didn't care about the pay, he needed
somewhere to stay and the nightclub was
perfect
He worked all night and slept during the day
One of the hotel porters told him about it
The porter was an immigrant too
He worked in the nightclub for three months
before he moved into a room with a boy
from his village
The boy robbed him of all his savings a week
later and disappeared into thin air
The boy also stole from the club
The club owner didn't believe he was innocent
He got the sack
He got evicted a day later
They paid their rent weekly and he couldn't pay
That was how he started roaming the streets,
looking for a job
It was difficult because he didn't have a work
permit
He was an illegal immigrant
He roamed the street for three days before
she found him
She was part of a ministry that helped the
street bums and drug addicts
She was from his town but her folks lived
in Lagos
It was too good to be true
She took him to the church and helped him
with food and shelter
She later presented his case to the church
and pushed for the processing of his
immigration papers
He was not a believer, he told her so
She didn't seem to mind, her heart was
made of gold
She helped him get a job at a local bookshop
She had been in Belgium for two years and in
France for three years before then
She was working with an NGO
She was a very fervent Christian
She didn't preach to him
She cared for him and other people with
the sort of passion that he didn't have
He was on the verge of committing suicide
when he met her
It was tough scrounging for food from
waste dumps
He had discovered people were more
generous with cigarettes than food
When he needed to enroll in a skill acquisition
workshop organised for the immigrants
She paid for him and helped him with the
language issues
If not for her, he would surely be dead or
imprisoned or deported
He had considered all the scenarios, there
was none in which he would
have survived without her
Somehow, two years after he met her and
had began to find his feet, he became a
Christian
It happened naturally
Perhaps it was because of the love and the
selfless care he was exposed to everyday
Perhaps it was because he found his place
in their midst
perhaps because he had fallen in love with
her and somehow knew she would never
marry him unless he was a believer
It could be for one of the reasons or all
the reasons
He confessed Jesus as his Lord and saviour
and ardently began to learn more about the
Lord and the Christlife
He got filled with the Holy Spirit and became
a Sunday School teacher
In 2012, he proposed to her
She said yes
They decided to travel home and meet each
other's family
They planned and worked hard
They saved and shopped
They bought their tickets early
They arrived home December 3
His father saw him December 5, its been ten
years since he left the country
He called to inform his family where he
was after he settled down that first year
His father was so proud
The day after he got home, he told his father
about her
His father said NO!
His father didn't give
a reason! He had joined the family to pray
the way they pray in his father's religion
since he returned home
He knew it would be tough on his father if
his father knew he had become a believer
He planned to spend a month at home
In that one month they planned to have
the wedding introduction
The next day, his father brought him a wife
The daughter of his best friend, the leader
of his father's religious group
He was shocked by the move He told his
father he couldn't marry the lady
His father said he had no choice It became
an issue, voices were raised
his mother cried His father placed a curse
on him for daring to disobey
His father said so much He left his father's
house in anger He met his babe in Lagos
and told her everything She told him to
go back home and obey his father
She has a knowing that there would be
opposition
He stayed in Lagos for ten days
He returned home he went to his father's
friends and older relatives
He pleaded with them to reason with his
father on his behalf
They set a meeting date for the following
Saturday
At the meeting, his father told everybody
that he had converted to Christianity and
only came home to make a fool of all of them
There were a lot of pictures on the internet
of him and his babe
There were also pictures of him teaching
Sunday school and preaching the gospel
Someone had gotten all the pictures and
fed his father's ears with bile
The meeting turned at that point
The elders and friends of his father turned
their backs on him
The game was over
He left his father's house for Lagos that day
On January 3, when they got to the airport,
the immigration officers suddenly discovered
a problem with his passport!
He was referred to the embassy to confirm
his visa
It was like a joke
His babe didn't have any issues checking in
He explained that they came into the country
together
His words were falling to the ground
They missed the flight
They were at the embassy every day for two
weeks
Eventually, his passport was collected
Then he was informed his passport had gone
missing
He was stuck in the country
His babe had to return to work while he sorted
things out otherwise she would lose her job
They had also gone low on money based
on the  travel expenses
She was of no use to him in the country
She traveled back to Belgium on March 1st
The day she left, his father called him and
said he had closed all doors of favour
to him
His father said "You will run and sweat in
a spot until you come back home!
You will never live again, you will just exist!
I have taken meaning away from your destiny
You are lost now but if I am your father
you will come home and do my bidding
Then you will live again!"
He called his pastor in Belgium
His pastor told him he should endure
persecution as the Bible instructed
He didn't have anywhere to go
If he went home, he had thrown in the towel
and his father had won
He didn't have any money to stay in a hotel
He was broke
He started sleeping in a church close to
the hotel where he had previously lodged
The pastor empathized with him after hearing
his story
He spent eight months like this
Calling the embassy and expecting his babe
to call him
His babe called and sent him money
frequently but she had maxed out her
credit cards before they traveled and had
a lot of debts to pay off
Her family started mounting pressure on her
to let him go
It was obvious they belonged to different
worlds
and he was just taking money from her
without giving anything back
They were buffetted on every side
His wife wrote to the Brother in Jeans and
T-shirt
She explained everything that had happened
and how it had become obvious that her
man's father had gone diabolical against
him
The brother in jeans and T-shirt told her the
persecution the Bible talked about was the
persecution we endure for the sake of the
gospel
Not persecution by demonic or diabolic
means
Nobody can persecute a Believer with
witchcraft or demonic talisman or juju
It is totally impossible
The following day, he went to the office
of the Brother in Jeans and T-shirt
They talked as brothers and prayed together
The Brother in jeans and T-shirt told him to
pack his bags
Nothing can be denied a believer whose
course had been charted by the Holy
Ghost!
That same night, he got a phone call from
the Embassy
His passport had been found in a safe and
his visa verified
The embassy paid for his flight back to
Belgium as a compensation for the
inconvenience he was subjected to
His heavens opened by the power of the
Holy Spirit
He returned to Belgium in December of the
following year
He had spent a year stuck at home
God preserved his space for him
He was somehow able to keep his job and
his apartment
The church he attended in Belgium were
of great help
He got married to his babe in July of that
year
It was a simple ceremony that was held
in France
They also had their honeymoon in France
The Lord blessed them with a son a year
later
He spoke with his father three years after
he left
His father called him to announce that he
was ill and needed medical attention
He sent his father all the funds needed
for the surgery
His father recovered fully
They had remained in cordial terms since
then

The End

GSW's Notes: A Christian cannot be
persecuted by diabolic means directly
People can make laws and take laws
into their hands to persecute a Christian
physically
If any man sat in a corner to cast spells
and enchantments against a believer,
such a person is wasting his or her energy
and effort
Unless the believer is ignorant of who he
or she is In Christ
There shall be no divination against Jacob,
No enchantment against Israel!
Always remember this
