Sunesis: Wisdom To See
Therefore, to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin (James 4:17).
If you know the right thing to do and don’t do it, to you, it’s a sin. That thing may not be a sin to someone else, but it is a sin to you because you knew it was the right thing to do, but you didn’t do it. This is one major reason God’s people need to understand the workings and guidance of divine wisdom in their lives.
The true definition and understanding of wisdom have eluded even the brightest minds in today’s world because to know wisdom, you have to know the word of God. Wisdom is simply INSIGHT INTO REALITY, and Reality is truth. Jesus said in John 14:6 “…I am the way, THE TRUTH, and the life…” Now, you see why being intellectually sound does make someone wise, because if a man’s concept of reality is outside God, he cannot be wise.
There are three Greek words that mean wisdom in the Bible. Two of them are found in Ephesians 1:8: “Wherein he hath abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence.” The Greek word translated “wisdom” in the above verse is Sophia, which means theoretical wisdom, while the Greek word translated “prudence” is Phronesis, which means practical wisdom.
In Luke 1:17, it is called “the wisdom of the just (righteous)”. It is the highest form of wisdom that causes you to act in ways consistent with God’s will, plans, and purposes. Apostle John further breaks it down in 3 John 1:3: “walking in the truth” is practical wisdom.
The third one is the Greek word Sunesis, which means “mental putting together, perception, or understanding”, is translated as “wise” in 2 Corinthians 10:12. In other words, Sunesis is analytical wisdom. Without it, as a child of God, you may reason wrongly and have the wrong interpretation of life.
But thanks be unto God, the scriptures have made it clear that Christ is our wisdom (1 Corinthians 1:30). We therefore have unlimited access to the wisdom of God.
SUNESIS
(Greek Word: Sunesis) means: -mentally putting together- Sunesis is wisdom; comprehension, perception, understanding. It means the ability to understand concepts and see relationships between them. It suggests quickness of apprehension, the penetrating consideration which precedes action.
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord (Colossians 3:16).
In Colossians 1:9, Paul, by the Spirit, prays, “For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you…
…and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding.” The word, “understanding,” is translated from the Greek “Sunesis”; it’s an interpretation; a way of thinking; a mentality. The Apostle Paul, in that verse, was dealing with a certain kind of understanding—a revelatory understanding—which the Word of God gives us.
This is why you need to stay in God’s Word, studying with understanding. Read our opening verse again: it says, “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly….” This will make you spiritually sagacious, insightful, and wise.
Another beautiful part of this is that God isn’t just raising us for this world. All that He’s doing in us—His programming in us through the Word is for the ages to come. So, if you don’t have the Word in you, with the Holy Spirit granting you spiritual understanding, insight into the realities of the Kingdom while you’re still in the earth, how are you going to function in the world to come?
Therefore, it’s important that you study the Scriptures with excitement; have a wild and voracious appetite for the Word. Be all out for the Word, because God’s Word is everything. With the Word in you, it doesn’t matter what you desire in this world; you can get it! With the Word of God in your spirit, and coming forth from your mouth, you can serve the Lord faithfully and bring Him glory now, and in the ages to come.
Sunesis:- Is Perception, the quickness of imagination. The lack of sunesis wisdom makes people to reason wrongly, it also makes people forgetful. The lack of Sophia’s wisdom makes a lot of people poor.
Many people have failed in life because of a lack of Sunesis. Many have made huge blunders which led to a loss of so many lives in flip second.
Many road accidents have happened because of a lack of Sunesis. Houses have been burnt for lack of Sunesis.
“Sunesis” is comprehension, perception, understanding, the ability to understand concepts and see relationships between them. It suggests quickness of apprehension, the penetrating consideration which precedes action.
But when we say wisdom is the ability to decide and discern right from wrong, we’re referring to “Phronesis,” which is practical wisdom. “Phronesis” is a mindset, the mindset of the righteous; it’s a force. When we say wisdom is a force, we’re referring to “Phronesis.”
“Phronesis” is that disposition of being in the will of God beyond your reasoning. It’s a special spiritual elixir that locates you within the framework or ambits of God’s will beyond your understanding. It locates you in the places where you ought to be; it causes you to do the things you ought to do without having to reason them out first, because it has created a mindset within your system. It’s your default setting to only talk right, think right, live right, and do right. It’s a programming.
Understand that you have the responsibility to do the following:
-
Increase in Wisdom: God’s Word is the source of wisdom, and you can thus increase in wisdom as you grow in grace and in the knowledge of Lord our Saviour Jesus Christ (2 Peter 3:18).
-
Talk Wisdom: You will speak wisdom as you meditate on God’s word. Also, ensure you fellowship with the mature in Christ so that you can talk the right spiritual language. This will bring you to a place of promotion and add more glory to your life (1 Corinthians 2:6-7)
-
Refuse to Corrupt Your Wisdom: Sanctify your heart and mind, and your tongue will be sanctified. If you continue to tell lies as a Christian, your wisdom will be corrupted. Never use your tongue for deception. Be honest and reliable.
As a believer, walking in wisdom is key in your life to manifest honor, glory, and absolute prosperity with victories on every side.
Wisdom gives you the ability to decide and discern right from wrong. Wisdom helps you distinguish righteousness from evil.
