The Tyson Moment

The Tyson Moment

It was a hectic day

He barely slept through the night

Were there bed bugs on his bed?

Was that a mosquito?

The few minutes he managed to doze of

He found himself unhooked from the sleep chariot, abruptly and irritatingly

How had he offended hypnos?

It was a very long night

He eyes were wide open

As dawn took its shift

He roused from bed

Took a shower

Dressed up for work

He was driving out of the compound

Aiming to beat the rush hour traffic

When his wife screamed from the bathroom

Wait for me

He gritted his teeth

She kept him waiting for 15 minutes

Finally he got on the road

A bump here, a pot hole there

He revved and raced as best as he could

A few meters gained

He landed in traffic

So many unreasonable people on the road

Illegal parking here

One way driving over there

Horns blaring everywhere

He got a headache

His six months old baby started bawling

His mother started singing to soothe him

He looked at them

'It is this bloody traffic'

The headache intensed

His left eye started throbbing

The cars ahead moved

The car directly in front of him refused to move

He hooted

'What was he doing?'

The car moved, he started moving

He heard a screech, a squeal

Then he felt himself suspended, for a few seconds

He crashed with his head banging against the steering

His wife and son were shaken but fine

The car behind him had crashed into him

Even in the traffic

What rubbish!

He jumped out of the car

The car boot had been seriously dented

The rear lights broken

The driver of the car that hit him from behind opened the door lazily

Alighted, shouted: Are you a mad man? Why didn't you move on time?

He felt the blood rushing from everywhere into his head

He took two steps

Gave the driver a Michael Tyson uppercut

The driver didn't see it coming

The punch landed squarely on his throat

He crumbled

People ran to the scene

He was panting and spoiling for a fight

Somebody started Mouth to Mouth

Somebody called an ambulance

Pandemonium!

The driver died

Right there

The Police came

He was arrested

His wife and son begged

He was locked up

Family members rallied

Friends and colleagues too

He got a good lawyer

Murder 1, Murder 2, Manslaughter

The state's lawyer argued

His lawyer argued

He was found guilty

On the day of his sentencing

He realized one truth

Freedom is so precious, yet so fragile

He woke up on his own bed

He never returned

His family will belong to another

All because of a moment of madness

Anger indeed rests in the bosom of a fool

He got 20 years with hard labour
