The Siege

The pain was jarring, right in the middle of the night
It was sharp, it was sudden and it was brutal
If felt as if a slow burning fire was lit in his tummy
It was the pain that woke him up
He rarely woke up once he went to bed
The pain was intense and deliberate
but he could still move his arms and legs
He pulled himself into a sitting position
He didnt want to disturb his wife
She was seven months pregnant and she rarely
slept through the night
He knew the pregnancy was taking its toll on her
She had been very considerate
bearing the discomfort with grace and dignity
He really admired her for her resilience
He stood up and wobbled to the restroom
He wanted to sit on the toilet and see if he
could solve the problem by pushing out
whatever it was out of his system
He remembered sitting on the toilet
He remembered the relief he felt as he pushed
That was all he remembered...

His wife woke up around 6 AM and noticed
that he was not on the bed
It was quite unusual
Her husband slept late but doesn't stir until 7 AM
He doesn't even wake up to ease himself during
the night
She listened for the sound of footsteps
Nothing!
She listened for the sound of movement,
any movement
Nothing! The silence grew on her
She felt something was very wrong
She pulled herself up from the bed
She called his name over and over
She didn't get any response
She waddled out of their room into the passage
She saw the door of his toilet ajar
She pushed open the door
There he was, on the toilet seat
She called his name, he didn't respond
Everywhere was dark
She found the switch and turned on the light
She screamed!
There was blood everywhere...
She called the neighbours, cried for help
Help came swiftly, one of the neighbours was
just about to drive out of the next compound
The neighbour helped her
they got him to the hospital just in time
The doctor told them they were lucky he was still alive
But he had slipped into a coma
She began to pray, she sent a message to the
Brother in Jeans and T-Shirt and they prayed
together, calling forth his life out of a coma!
She called his parents and siblings
"This" has happened and this is where we are"
Some of them arrived at the clinic that evening
They came with warm hugs, warm assurances and love
His family was an answered prayer for her
She was never treated like a wife or an outsider
His mother treated her like a daughter
His sisters treated her like one of them
Even when she had delays and couldn't conceive on time
They were a pillar of support for her
He came out of the coma three days later
He was fine, responded to stimuli normally
The doctor told them he had pulled through
But he would still have to be observed for sometime
In all, he spent two weeks in the hospital
Friends and colleagues came to visit
He was showered with so much love
He did a colonoscopy and other tests
The doctors found holes in his intestine
They called it gastrointestinal perforation
Emergency surgery was performed
His recovery went very well
Two days after he was discharged
They flew to the United Kingdom
They needed to be sure things were very fine
The medical team that attended to them took
him through all the hoops
They certified him as perfect
They waited in the United Kingdom until she
delivered her baby
It was a great time for their marriage
They spent time together and bonded
He also grew very confident of his health again
He had been so shocked by the suddenness of the
attack he suffered initially that he started
acting as if his body was made of eggshell
But with time he started jogging and eating well
trusting his own body again!
They returned home as soon as the
baby was fit to travel
He had been away from his office for fifteen
weeks in all
The office was responsible for his treatment
both at home and abroad
He was holding a managerial position in a financial
services firm
The day he resumed, his Group Managing Director
paid him a visit in his office
The Group managing director said
"I have been given an appointment with the World Bank,
I deliberately delayed taking up the appointment'
and resigning my position here until you return
to this office!
I have recommended you to the board of Directors
as the new Group Managing Director!
They wanted to appoint someone else from outside
the firm but I said No!
You have proven yourself to be diligent, capable
shrewd and able to handle the reins of this organization!"
He sat there, dumbfounded!
His brush with death had given him a new perspective on life
He wanted to take things easy
He was even contemplating resigning
He had some money saved already and his late Father's
companies were thriving under the watch of his mother
and elder brother
They paid him handsome dividends every year
He could live in any country of his choice
There are better things to do with one's life
than chase money!
But, the GMD was someone he respected so much
He couldn't turn him down without giving
it a thought
He thanked the man and told him he would
think about it
About an hour after the GMD left
The manager of one of their subsidiaries
paid him a visit
She was a very brilliant and politically connected
colleague whom he had great respect for
She came bearing gifts!
A huge hamper, a "welcome back to work card" and a
bottle of 1988 Mouton wine!
They hugged and talked
The lady had just returned from the World
Economic Summit and had a lot of information he
found very useful
When he got home that evening, he met his
wife and the Brother in Jeans and T-shirt at home
His wife introduced them
His wife said she felt they needed to anoint the
house and pray
She had been feeling unsettled since they
returned home
He really had nothing against church and God and
all that but he was at most a sceptic
What purpose does anointing a house serve?

He didn't complain out loud
He wanted his wife to be comfortable and happy

They were all standing up with their hands raised
His wife, his wife's younger sister, their two housemaids,
his driver also joined them
He stood in reverence and watched with curiosity
Suddenly, the wind came!
It wasn't as dramatic as he had always felt God
would be!
He felt his skin crawling strangely, he felt some chills
in his bones and some goosebumps
The prayer and anointing was done in fifteen minutes
The Brother in Jeans and T-shirt started saying his
goodbye
He shook everybody in the room one by one
Then it was his turn
As soon as their hands touched
He found himself vibrating all over
The Brother in jeans and T-shirt said
"You will have a visitor tomorrow, share the wine
and be silent! Just pay attention"
The Brother in Jeans and T-shirt prayed for him and left!
The next day he went to the office
It was a very busy day!
By 5:30 pm he returned to his office and started packing
his briefcase when she arrived
The lady that gave him the wine the previous day
She said she came to see the Group Managing Director
and just popped in to say hello!
He smiled and asked her to sit down
Then he took cups and served the wine
The same wine she brought him the previous day
He shared the wine and they started drinking
Out of the blue, she said "Why do men take
women for a ride? Why do men treat women like
dung? I studied hard and it wasn't enough?
I went to some of the best schools in the world
I studied in the United Kingdom and Canada,
I earned the best grades available
I got a job here as the head of the legal team
through my father's political connections
I worked hard to make the cut
When I realised hard work was not going to
be enough, I opened my legs and climbed upwards with
my irresistible assets
I lost my family over the choices I made
For my career, I have been branded a corporate whore
I slept with the chairman CEO until he retired
and now I sleep with the Group Managing Director
I know what the other staff members say behind my back
I bore it gladly because I have a goal
I was so sure a day will come that it would all pay off
When I was handed over XYZ finances, I worked magic with it
We brought in investors from all over the world
Turned a local stock market outfit into an internationally
respected firm
About six months ago, I was informed that the GMD
would be taking up either the Affreximbank or
World Bank offers
Naturally, I expected him to consider me for the
position of GMD or if he would play fair
allow those interested in the position a fighting chance
Do you know that he laid right by my side, looked
into my eyes and told me he had someone in mind for
the position!"
Then she looked right into his eyes and said
"You are just 43 years old, from a privileged background
what do you need such a position for?
You would be too young for the position
He made me feel so mad that day, I was just gutted!
The next day, I decided I couldn't afford to lose
the opportunity!
I went to pledge my first daughter to the initiates
and in return, they said they would give me the seat
I desired!
I wanted you to know it was nothing personal
If you refuse that position today and recommend me
I can undo what has been done but if you insist
on taking that seat, I will not stop until I have it!
It is mine by right!
You can afford to wait a few years but I am 51 years old!
It is now or nothing for me!
She carried her handbag and left with the half drunk
wine cup still in her hands
He called his wife
"Please how can I see that Brother in Jeans and T-shirt"
he asked

PS: The woman died!
Nobody prayed against her or cursed her
He brought his entire family to a vigil where
the Brother in Jeans and T-shirt ministered
He gave his life to Jesus Christ during the vigil
After the Vigil, the Brother in Jeans and T-Shirt
served him and his wife the Holy Communion
He told them they have been translated and cannot
be afflicted anymore
Six days later, the woman was found dead in
her bathroom
She was said to have slipped on the floor after
having her bath and hit her head on the bathtub
He attended the woman's funeral with the
Brother in Jeans and T-shirt!
They were able to locate the woman's daughter
The Brother in Jeans and T-shirt asked her if
she had been having strange dreams
She said yes
He ministered the gospel to her
She readily accepted Jesus as Lord and saviour
He prayed for her and filled her with the Holy
Spirit
She was set free of the tormenting spirit of
witchcraft!
Minding your business or playing it safe
is never the way
Accept Jesus as your Lord and saviour now,
be filled with the Holy Spirit and save yourself
from the many troubles of wickedness
