Bride of Blood

"If my husband cheats on me, 
break my heart or betrays my 
trust in any way, I swear to God, 
I will kill him! 
A traitor and I will not draw the 
same breath! 
I cannot invest my time, energy 
and money on someone, build 
him up and then watch him become 
profitable to another woman"
She said it casually, it was almost 
like a slip of the tongue or a casual 
blurting out! 
They were in the final year, that 
season in a student's life when 
lectures and lecturers lose their 
importance! 
A campus club brought a musician 
to their school, they were watching 
him perform
Her declaration made his heart skip. 
She said it in a chilly way! 
It was almost as if she had seen
 herself do it or could see into her own 
future as she did it. 
They were just classmates, both of them
 were single but they were not attracted 
to each other beyond that
"Why bother going into a relationship?" 
He asked her! 
"Since this is how you feel, why don't 
you spend your money on yourself, 
build yourself, invest in yourself, 
love yourself and stay single! 
That way, you don't end up killing 
somebody and throwing your life 
away!" He replied
She took offence immediately! 
"You guys are so insensitive! 
Imagine, I should remain single! 
Is it because they have cursed you 
men with unfaithfulness! 
Is it too much to ask that a man 
remains faithful and loyal to a lady 
he professed to love? 
Nobody will use me and dump me!
If you dare, you will pay with your life! 
I am not some foolish girl a leech 
will suck dry in the name of love! 
If you buy it, you keep it. 
If you damage it, it breaks you!" 
She delivered her response, and left 
without a backward glance! 
Everything he saw in her demeanor
spelt doom
They graduated. 
Four years later His younger brother 
returned from the UK with a lady he 
wanted to marry 
She was the bride 
They were so happy together 
He didn't think twice about it 
He told his younger brother he had 
slept with her while they were on 
campus 
The wedding cannot be
"Of course" he lied!
 There was no better way to kill the 
wedding bells She denied it

She came to his flat and fell on her knees 
"Why are you doing this" she asked 
She had forgotten what she told him 
He walked her out! 
His younger brother called off the

His younger brother took it badly, 
kept malice with him for two years 
His mother was equally puzzled 
He kept his counsel 
They suspected that he lied but they 
couldn't lay their hands on a motive! 
Time passed Fences were mended 
He got married 
His younger brother got married
Then came the news 
A husband was gutted in an estate 
His wife suspected him of cheating 
on her She cut off his manhood and 
skewered him open with a knife 
The news was everywhere at once 
His younger brother forwarded the 
pictures to him "Can you believe 
what I just saw" he asked
Of course, he believed it It was the 
same lady, the walking time bomb! 
She had executed the future she so 
chillingly predicted about ten years 
before then, seating beside him, 
right under the mango tree in front 
of the school sports field as they 
watched the hip hop star perform
It was then that he opened up to his 
brother and mother His mother was 
a widow who single-handedly raised 
her two sons after the early demise 
of their father It would be foolish to 
allow his brother die in the hands of 
a woman who was determined to
 kill a man in the name of love
He told them he never slept with 
the lady but he knew she was deeply 
damaged and would kill her own 
husband one day 
He just knew it the moment she spoke 
that day But there was no other way 
to stop the marriage than throw himself 
under the bus He did it to save his 
brother's life
His brother was very grateful 
His mother too was extremely glad 
They knew something wasn't right 
Everything suddenly made sense to them! 
He had preserved his brother from a 
bride of blood
