DO MORE! (Matthew 5:46-47)

QUESTION: If you say you are a Christian, how are you any different from the unbeliever? What differentiates you from him?

Imagine you live in a block of flats and your neighbors are unbelievers. Or you are a student in a class with unbelievers as classmates. Or your colleagues at work are unbelievers: How are you different from them? If you are under the same conditions, if you react to stimuli like them, complain about inflation and insecurity like them, view life through the same lenses with them, talk same, behave same, act same, think same, hear same: how are you any different?

Jesus asked a couple of interesting questions: “If you love those who love you, what is the big deal? Don’t the tax collectors (sinners)do same? If you greet only your brothers, what is the difference: what more are you doing than others? don’t the tax collectors (sinners) do same?” (Matthew 5:46-47).

In other words, there MUST be a difference between you and the unbelievers: AND IT SHOULD SHOW! And nobody should need a magnifying glass to see it.

We are Called Out to be different.

We are Called Out to see different.

We are Called Out to act different.

We are Called Out to talk different.

We are Called Out to think different.

We are Called Out to hear different.

We are Called Out to DO MORE! 

 

Your Christianity should stand you out. You MUST be different.

“You are the Salt of the Earth…” Jesus submitted (Matthew 5:13). Salt never leaves things as they were: It will ALWAYS change things. It will ALWAYS enhances taste.

“You are the Light of the World…” Jesus also submitted (Matthew 5:14).

Light will always STAND OUT. It cannot be shut out by any darkness: it will stand out.

We are called to DO MORE!

We are called to DO MORE!!

We are called to DO MORE!!!

WE ARE DIFFERENT!

When that bus cuts in front of you and you had to slam on your brakes to avoid an accident, do you insult and curse the driver? That is how the natural person will react.

But we are called to be DIFFERENT: We are called to DO MORE!

When the fuel attendant tries to cheat you by selling less fuel than you paid for, do you get angry and curse? That is how the natural man will react.

But we are called to be DIFFERENT: We are called to DO MORE!

We cannot be seeing, living, speaking, acting, thinking or hearing the same way the unbeliever sees, lives, speaks, acts, thinks or hears. If we do, then our Christianity is useless. And baseless.

Jesus gave a few examples how we should DO MORE.

In several places in the Book of Matthew chapter 5 verses 21-44, He would say, “You have heard this… But I say this…”

In other words, this is what the natural man does, this is how he processes things, how he sees, how he thinks, how he hears, how he speaks. But you as a Christian MUST be different! You as a Christian must DO MORE!

Your general lifestyle MUST be different. “Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works (see the difference in you, see that you DO MORE) and glorify your Father in Heaven.”

DO MORE, People!

Our Father in Heaven will be glorified when we do.
