The Cobra

She was with her boyfriend when she 
met her husband
They were somewhere in Festac
There was terrible traffic and her boyfriend was 
driving like a maniac
He was very impatient by nature
Somehow as he was navigating a bend he 
hit another car
The owner of the car got down
It became a scuffle
Of course, her boyfriend was the guilty one
He was the one who deliberately left the 
main road to drive on the sidewalk and 
wanted to navigate back onto the main road 
when the incident happened
She sat in the car and watched them fight
Two young men in their mid twenties
She felt so embarrassed!
She didn't really know what she was 
doing with him
She needed to have a boyfriend and he 
was what came along
Of course she wasn't planning to marry him
He was just the boyfriend before the main thing
After a few minutes, the young man her 
boyfriend was fighting with went berserk
He took a stone and smashed it on her 
boyfriend's chest
Her boyfriend wobbled and collapsed 
like a log of wood
The guy fighting with him became 
aware of what had been done
He wanted to run but some people in 
the crowd held him
They compelled him to carry her boyfriend, 
put him in his car and drive away with him
The car keys were still in the ignition
She turned the car around and followed 
them to the hospital
She was so done with the relationship
But she still had to play her role as his friend
By the time she got to the hospital, 
he had been admitted
He had bruised ribs and some bruises on his body
The person he fought with didnt look any better
She waited until he woke up from his sleep
She dropped his car key on the cupboard 
beside his bed and left
As she was walking down the stairs of 
the hospital
She heard a patter of feet behind her
A voice said "Hello, can i give you a lift?"
She turned around and saw him
A tall young man, about her age or a little 
older than her
She wondered what he wanted, who he was
But he just smiled and repeated the question
She wanted to say No but then he said 
"I can see you are a little bit stranded!
I followed you guys from the scene of the fight
I wanted to be sure you are okay
My name is so and so, I just couldn't walk 
away without offering a little help
Wow! He was smooth!
She told him where she was going
He gestured that she should lead the way
They talked a little bit in the car
He told her he was a naval officer
He was on his way to the naval base when 
he saw the fight
He was too late to intervene before the 
fighters injured each other
He decided it wouldn't be responsible to 
abandon them
What if they needed blood or some money 
at the hospital?
He just needed to make sure everything
was fine!
She asked him why he was so interested in 
two irresponsible 
strangers fighting each other
He laughed and told her he remembered 
how he once 
was before he joined the navy
Her heart dances at the sound of his voice
As soon as he opened his mouth
She forgot all her sorrow
He spoke his heart into her heart
Her heart was all warm and juicy
She laughed and smiled and wished the journey 
would never be over
He got her home, they exchanged numbers, she 
skipped all the way to her room
He left her feeling knotted up inside
How she used to feel when Christmas was 
approaching as a child
He put the butterflies right in her belly
She called him thirty minutes later to 
say thank you
As she hoped he asked if he could see her again
And that was how they kicked off the show
They started calling each other every evening 
from 10 pm till whenever they slept off
He told her about his day, his life,  his family, 
his dreams
She told him about everything
She just couldn't keep quiet
Her boyfriend started calling a few days after 
he was discharged from the hospital
He was angry she abandoned him
Then he apologized for his conduct
He wanted her back
She didn't even hear him
She couldn't!
Her mind was far away, floating in a naval 
ship somewhere!
Eventually, she told her boyfriend it was over!
She had met someone else, she has had enough 
of his violent ways!
But he took it badly
Calling her at odd hours and acting all weird
It was as if he doesn't know the meaning 
of "Go away"
He sent her all sorts of messages
Some with a conciliatory tone, others 
very insulting
What he wanted was to have sex with her
He felt he lost out in the relationship 
by not sleeping with her!
She wouldn't have slept with him even if they
were together
She wasn't that comfortable with him
She dated him because she was bored and 
tired of being alone
She thought she would never get a better option
and accepted his offer of friendship due to panic
She really didnt like him that much and the more
time she spent with him, the more she realized
they can never work out as a couple!
At a point, it got too much for her
She changed her phone number, blocked 
him on all the social media platforms 
She also tried as much as possible to 
erase him from her memory
She mentioned his antics to her naval officer
He advised her to be calm and take things easy
He urged her to be extra careful because 
"the guy" seemed unstable
Eventually her naval man asked her out
By this time they had been doing the phone 
call thing for two months
It was as if he had rented a permanent space 
in her head and heart
She really loved him with all her heart
One week after she started going out with him
Her boyfriend played his desperate card!
He sent her nude pictures of herself and 
threatened to splash it on the
internet if she did not come to his house the
 following day by 10 AM
The pictures were not a surprise
When she was an undergraduate, she attended 
a party where she 
drank a strange drink and was out of her senses 
for hours
By the time she regained her senses she was 
naked and asleep in a strange room
The substance she and other students drank 
was called "Gegemu"
also known as Datura!
It was a horrible experience
She didn't know a video of her "hours madness" 
was recorded and some
pictures were also taken
It was a huge scandal while she was an undergraduate
She cried and wished she would die
The school authority heard about it 
An invesitgation was made into the matter
Many students were suspended and 
some were expelled!
The videos and pictures were destroyed 
and that was that!
She graduated and moved on with her life
Only for some the pictures to surface out of 
nowhere and in the custody of a bitter ex!
She didn't know what to do
She knew if she went to meet her ex she would find 
herself in deeper trouble
He might rape, injure, kill or even get his friends 
to gang rape her
At the same time, she didn't want those 
pictures on the internet!
She considered her options and decided it is 
best to let the cat out of the bag
She called her man and told him what 
had happened
Everything!
He was unhappy that she didn't mention it for the
 two months they spent opening up to each other
She explained that it was a shameful 
thing she wanted
to keep in her past
He told her to call her ex-boyfriend and tell him 
she would be in his apartment by 10AM the 
following morning
She did
The next day, her man and six of his friends went 
with her to his apartment
They beat him up and smashed all his phones, 
computers and other gadgets
They met four other guys in his flat
They were all playing Play Station
They destroyed the play station and 
all the furniture
It was an uncomfortable sight
He was made to apologize to her and 
sign a statement 
never to contact her again!
By 2 pm it was over
Since that day, he kept very far away from her
One year later she married her Naval Hero!

PS: This event happened in Festac, Lagos State 2015
The Boyfriend now lives in Cape Town, South Africa
She and her husband live in Navy Town, Lagos
They are blessed with two children

The Ex-boyfriend came to the office of the Brother
in Jeans and T-shirt
He shared his story
He said he was expelled for his role in spiking
the drink she drank at the party
He was in 400 Level at the time and she was in 
100 Level
She was not even supposed to be at the party because
it was for final year students only
He didn't know how she smuggled herself into the
party
He was the one that prevented some guys from raping her
when she was stipping herself naked!
He felt it was unfair that he was expelled when she was 
the one that crashed a party uninvited
Fortunately for him, she didn't recognize him!
All he wanted to do was take his pounds of flesh
from her
But that was before he met Christ
Jesus helped him overcome the hurt and the spirit
of vengeance and hatred!
He is now a new creation
He will be getting married on Saturday 6th July 2019!
