Absalom will Die

Absalom will Die

BRING BACK THE KING!
(2nd Samuel 19: 10)
Absalom carried out a coup against his
father, King David.
He succeeded in stealing the love and
affection of the people from his father.
He was crafty, he was manipulative and
he worked out his plan to take over
power very well.
He almost succeeded in taking over the throne.
But David was ANOINTED by God.
David’s rise to the throne was not by any man.
God picked him out of the crowd to be king.
God saw his heart and knew this was the
right man to rule over His people.
Absalom did not have the mandate of God.
He had the mandate of men.
He was so crafty; he was able to convince
some of David’s loyal men to jump ship
with him.
He was a very handsome man.
He used his physical attributes to his
advantage.
But when you do not have God’s calling, '
when you do not have God’s anointing,
when you do not have God’s blessing,
you are going to fall and fail
Absalom did.
He had managed to chase David out of
Jerusalem.
He took over the palace.
He slept with his father’s concubines.
He did all he could to make David a laughing
stock in Israel.
It got to a point folks who would not dare
to look at David’s face were throwing stones
at him.
They called him names.
They insulted and ridiculed him.
David literally went through hell.
And the most painful thing was, the
antagonist was his own son!
How bad could it be?
Your own son wants to kill you and take
over your throne!
Your own son slept with your concubines.
Your own son turned you into a refugee.
But…
Absalom died!
He was killed.
His hair that was his pride and glory did
him in.
He was riding his horse and he went
under a tree, his hair got tangled in the
tree’s branches, his horse rode off leaving
 him hanging by his hair.
David’s men saw him and killed him.
The man the whole of Israel was hoping
 to be King died.
Hope was lost.
People were in despair.
Absalom was dead!
Oh no!
Where do we go from here?
There is a saying in Yoruba,
“If we cannot go forward anymore,
we can at least go backward”.
We cannot afford to be stagnant.
What do we do?
“Absalom whom we anointed over
us is dead in battle.
Now therefore, why isn’t anyone saying
anything about bringing the King back?”
- 2nd Samuel 19: 10.
There is still HOPE.
You have derailed, you have left God’s path
and followed men’s counsel.
You have forsaken the fountain of living waters
and hewed for yourself cisterns,
broken cisterns that cannot hold water
(Jeremiah 2:13).
You have been following Absalom.
Now that he is dead, will you go back to David,
the man with the original mandate?
You have a dream.
God gave you a revelation, a business idea.
You are excited!
Your David has come!
You went about, seeking how to bring
this dream into reality.
Then you discuss with folks you believe
would help you realize this dream.
They are excited!
They tell you how to go about the dream.
They bring in their technical know-how.
They build on your plan and made it bigger
 than you had ever imagined.
They tell you about some foreign investors
they know from Canada and Japan.
Your plan is going international!
Or so you think.
You are already counting dollars in your
dreams.
You are happy!
You make plans, your hopes are high!
Then… One year passes. Two years. Three.
What is going on?
Your partners tell you the value of the
naira has crashed, it’s affecting investments.
They tell you some economics jargon you
have no idea what it means.
You are heartbroken!
You are deflated!
You had so much planned!
You are sure this idea is from God:
why should it die?
Then God whispers to you…
“My child, you have left me behind!
You have forsaken David!
You have been following Absalom
the past 3 years.
Now, Absalom is dead: will you bring
back the King?”
Will you go back to the dream I gave you
Will you retrace your steps from Absalom
back to David?
God told you clearly: “Son, I want you
to go work in that Ministry for a few
years to learn.
I have instructed the Pastor to disciple
you for the great work I have for you.”
You went ahead to join the ministry.
After a year, you quarreled with the pastor
and left to start your own ministry.
After 2 years, your ministry collapsed.
You asked God, why?
What happened?
Where have I missed it?
God says, “Absalom whom you have
anointed over you is dead.
Bring David back!”
Go back to the man I asked to disciple you!
God told you to marry George.
You dated for 6 months and you feel he is
not “woke” enough.
You left him for Benjamin, a better bloke
according to your standard. 3 years later,
Benji leaves you for Pamela.
You are devastated.
You cry to God, why?
God tells you, “Absalom whom you have
anointed over you is dead. Bring back
king David!” Go back to the man
I told you- George!
Many folks have been carried away from David,
enticed by Absalom.
Impressed with his physique, his appearance
and charisma.
They have missed the path, thinking Absalom
IS the way.
They were deceived by his craftiness.
But it is just a matter of time:
 Absalom WILL die.
When he does, I hope you will realize how
you have wasted your time and retrace
your steps back to David.
I hope you will be willing to bring
back the King…

Shalom.
