Bestie I
The first red flag was the way he
kept including his bestie in his
conversation while he was asking her out!
It was not funny at all
He insinuated that it was his bestie
that encouraged him to forget the pains
and heartbreaks of the past and go into
relationship again!
She got it
He told her that his bestie was the
only one who had always been there for
him through thick and thin!
They had known each other for over
thirteen years and could hardly go
through a day without talking to each
other!
His bestie meant a lot to him
He made that very very clear!
She didn’t like it
She had never liked the idea of
another woman in her man’s life
apart from his mother and sisters
Women are the most unfair to other
women when it comes to the men
they care about!
She didn’t need another woman setting
standards for her with her man!
She really didn’t like the idea and
she made that obvious!
He told her he would tone it down
And he did!
He stopped mentioning his bestie’s
this and his bestie said that every
five minutes!
He respected her opinion and cut the
conversation between him and his bestie
to a barest minimum
She knew there was nothing untoward
between them, she just didn’t want her
man having a bestie!
Her man got it!
Her man had been chasing her for a
relationship for almost two years before
she agreed to be with him!
He was everything she wanted in a man
and she took her time to be sure it
wouldn’t end in tears.
Apart from the “bestie” thing,
he was an industrious young man who
had his life figured out!
He had a definite plan towards settling
down, he had money saved, he was
gainfully employed, he didn’t have
family members draining his resources...
They met through a friend
Things started slowly but he knew
what he wanted! She was sure he was
her man!
She prayed about it and all the stars
were aligned
They had a three-year plan to get married!
#She was also gainfully employed
Within six months, his language had
changed
The bestie was no longer featuring at all!
According to him, he met the bestie
during a very difficult period in his life!
He was in Germany with
His mother at the time.
His mother had died in a car crash and
he attempted to commit suicide as a result.
His bestie was part of the team sent by their
“Nigerian” church they were attending in
Germany at the time
That was how they became friends!
She got it But nothing lasts forever!
He explained her “stand” to his bestie
She expected his bestie to understand,
after all, they were both women!
It was fine
He stopped calling his bestie for several
months
They made giant strides in their marital plans
They picked certain dates and started
meeting with family members
They also rented a bigger apartment
His father sent him some money to support
their wedding plans
She was so happy
They had started marriage counseling session
His bestie graduated and returned home
He told her and asked her if he could go
and see her
(They had not seen each other for about
nine years)
She encouraged him to go
He went
Then he had to go with the bestie to Abuja
for a document
Then he had to stay in Abuja for two weeks to
process the document
At first he called very often
The he rarely called
Then she started calling
Then he stopped picking her calls
She didn’t know what happened
It was like rowing a boat into the middle
of the ocean and losing the
Paddle!
She was stranded!
The next thing she saw was a picture of
their wedding at a registry in Abuja
He had married his bestie!
He sent her a message on the morning of
his wedding
He said he was sorry it had to end that
way but he had to follow his heart!
He was very very sorry
He never returned to Lagos
She never saw him again
After the wedding, he and his bestie
went off to Ghana for their honeymoon
From there they both returned to Germany
(He was a citizen)
He left her
He left his job
His properties
Everything!!!
His bestie was obviously worth
much more
PS: This story was dropped by the lady
whose fiancé ran off with his bestie!
She wanted to know what I think
about her plight
I can say this!
Human nature is the most consistent thing
in the world
We make wrong choices and run away
from consequences all the time!
It’s who we are...
