Finding Balance

Finding Balance

She didn't understand her husband
It was frustrating
It was unnerving
Being married to a man who concedes
the lead all the time
She was ambitious, driven, she had a lot of things she wanted to achieve A lot of things she wanted them to achieve together But he seemed demotivated!
He did the very least that could be done
and seemed contented with it!
 They both earn very well
He worked in the construction industry
She was a banker, a branch manager
Between them, they ought to be a power couple
Setting records of achievements every other
month in every area
But they weren't!
He wasn't irresponsible
He was just so contented with "little"!
She tried to talk to him
Push him
Motivate him
Talk to him
Nothing worked!
He kept asking her what else she wanted
They had millions in their life savings account
The children's education fund was intact
They live in an estate on the Lagos mainland
They had three good cars
But to her they were nothing
Families are living in Parkview estate
Families are living in Ikoyi
Families owned properties all over the
world
What was he talking about?
The discontent in her heart made her resent him
She hated the fact that he set the bar so low
They could be so much more!
"Take a loan and start a business by the side
and let me do the same
 Let us double our income
We should be living in a certain estate,
driving a certain sort of cars
Moving with a certain sort of people
Going for summer every year
Can't you see that everyone around us
are doing so much better?"
He always acted as if she was talking rubbish
Sometimes he would keep quiet and watch her rant,
when she was done, he would turn his back
on her and sleep off as if he had only
listened out of politeness
It bothered her seriously
They were not poor but they could
be super rich!
She decided one day to teach him a lesson
Make him take her seriously
She packed her bags and left the house
She felt their union needed to be renegotiated
He was taking her feelings for granted,
denying her access to her utopia,
lackadaisical about her earnest heart desires
It was as if he was waiting for her to move
He didn't call her phone
He didn't try to reach out to her
He was as unmotivated to bring her back
home as he was about everything else
She couldn't believe it
She felt as if she was nothing to him
Just a shadow that passed by his life
Her pride stung her badly
She refused to go back home
He kept telling people he didn't send
her packing and she can return home
whenever she so desired
He got a househelp to help him cope
with the children
She picked her children from school
every day, dropped them at his house
or took them to her new apartment
He didn't bother either way
He was just going along with the flow
A year went by, two years
Sometimes she slept over at his place
Sometimes he would wait for the children
to sleep and drive down to her apartment
They had their conjugal often
He never complained for a day
She also found herself getting comfortable
with the arrangement
She had more thinking room
She started the second business in her
apartment's sitting room!
The distance from the children gave
her time to do other things
She bought that dream car
She even bought a house within 5 years!
She went wherever she wanted without
"hubby's" shadow
His "low bar" was no longer a barrier for her
 She was soaring
She travelled for summer in 2014 for two weeks
By the time she returned they were gone
Her husband and her three children
They relocated to Canada
Her husband mentioned the plan to her
but she didn't take him serious
Was she supposed to leave her empire
and relocate? No way!
She had struck gold!
They would have to find a way around it!
She liked the idea It was the most ambitious
thing her husband ever did!
And it is in line with the practises of those
around her It enhanced her status
It took her twenty months to put things in
order and obtain a visa to Canada
She planned to make it up to the family
by spending three months
When she got to Cagliari, she met a shocker!
Her husband was MARRIED to her last
child's class teacher!
They relocated as a family!
He had obtained a divorce from her on
grounds of desertion for three years
He got married and planned the relocation
 under her nose
Men are so slimy!
She tried to reason with him but he
was a stranger
He had changed!
He related with her somehow oddly,
as if she was an outsider!
She returned home
She didn't know how she felt...
Demotivated, lonely, betrayed,
deserted, frustrated and abandoned!
Her children had taken to their new
mother with joy
She saw it!
Nothing made sense
Friends and family members sympathized
with her
But she knew they blamed her
She had to start afresh
At forty-six
She had a duplex and two luxurious cars
She went looking for love but all she
 found was lust
The men she me expected her to pay
for the sex one way or another...
She shared her story with the
Brother in Jeans and T-shirt,
hoping for a miracle!

PS: When I posted this thread on twitter
it sparked a controversy
That was not my intention
I shared it to keep us aware
of the need for a balance
A little too much to the right
or to the left and everything
would become lopsided
This event happened in Lagos,
and Cagliari 2017
