Counter-Attack

It was valedictory service day, 
the graduating students were all 
dressed in white 
They were brought back to school 
for the service in all sorts of flashy cars 
Food and drinks were brought's
 Tents were set up
 It was the end of a long six-year journey 
through secondary school!
He decided to stay in the hostel. 
He didn't have anything fancy to wear, 
plus he joined the boarding school in SS1, 
just a year before. 
He wasn't familiar with most of the 
seniors who were graduating and he 
hated hanging around party venues 
like an urchin just for the free food!
His roommates went for the party! 
Some for the food, others to feed 
their eyes and check out the designer 
wears and flashy cars! 
A debate would arise later in the night 
about the best dressed and the one's 
with the richest parents He wanted to 
go but he steeled himself not to!
Two hours later one of the juniors 
rushed into the room! 
One of his friends was drunk and was 
making a scene in school 
He ran to the school premises and 
found his friend, stumbling all over and 
spewing profanities If discovered by 
the school authority his friend would 
be expelled
He took his friend to the hostel! 
Someone suggested that they give his 
friend some soaked gaari! 
(Cassava flour to neutralize the alcohol). 
In a boarding house, gaari is a common 
commodity! Most of the students have 
some but he didn't! He went to the 
hostel and got some!
His friend was given the gaari! 
His friend calmed down! 
Later in the evening the SS2 students 
came into the hostel! 
One of them said "We know you have an
 eye infection and because of that you 
don't bring gaari to school! 
Where did you get the gaari you gave 
your bunkmate?
He told them he took a cup from the 
open locker! 
(The open locker was where things of 
little or no value were kept in their 
room for easy access) 
They told him he was a thief, they 
would baptize him! (Baptism is the 
jungle justice meted out to thief's 
caught in the boarding house
They took out their belts and flogged
 him mercilessly for three hours until 
he bled all over!
 They would have continued if his friend 
and bunkmate didn't rush to get the 
housemaster! 
They all patted themselves on the back 
afterwards 
They had fun and boasted about their exploits
A week later they all had a curious 
but similar dream! 
The thirteen of them were handed 
shovels and told to start digging their graves! 
After digging, they were thrown in the 
graves and buried alive! 
It was real and scary One of them called 
his mother 
His mother went to a prophet
The next day, the student who 
spearheaded the baptism exercise fell 
into the fishing pond in the school farm 
and drowned! It was an eerie death! 
The other students saw it as an omen! 
Their dreams were coming to pass! 
They huddled together witlessly 
whispering in low tones
The one who called his mother was bitten 
by a snake in the hostel the following day 
at dawn! He was rushed to the hospital 
just in time! The others didn't need any 
other sign! They came to his room and 
fell on their faces! "We have offended 
you, please forgive us" they begged
He didn't say a word! His body was still 
sore from the beating and his eyes were 
full of hate! The next day his mother came
 to take him home! 
She told the housemaster none of 
those who attacked her son would 
live beyond the week! 
The housemaster begged and sent 
for their parents
The housemaster, the principal and 
the parents went to see his mother! 
His mother explained that he was the 
heir to a traditional stool being 
groomed in secret! 
All sorts of fetish charms had been 
done on him to prevent his early 
death through witchcraft and other means
Those who beat him had incurred the 
wrath of many deities. 
A sacrifice to appease the deities must 
be done! 
The parents were fined heavily for 
the sacrifice! They did the needful. 
The siege was over! 
Life went on 
The students graduated 15 years later, 
one of the students fell ill
He was already married and working 
with a bank 
He started having the dream again 
And his body was covered with welts 
His wife called the brother in Jeans
 and T-shirt "My husband is dying of a 
curious affliction'' She cried 
The husband explained what he 
believed was happening
The Brother in Jeans and T-shirt led 
him to Christ and prayed with the family 
A week later the baptized student, 
now a traditional ruler died! 
He slipped in the bathroom and died! 
Perhaps it was a coincidence, 
but at the same moment,
 the sick husband was completely healed!

PS: It is not about demons or morals 
It has nothing to do with good and 
evil God is not taking good people 
to heaven 
Jesus did not die to punish evil people 
It is about salvation! 
Whosoever shall call upon the name 
of the Lord shall be saved! 
It is better to be saved than to be good!
