Happy Feet
His children were watching cartoons
The eight-year-old wanted to watch Super Heroes HQ
The six-year-old wanted to watch Nick Jnr
The remote control was dragged to and fro
Eventually, the decoder was switched off
The eight-year-old came running
“Daddy, I want to watch so and so show now”
The Six-year-old was right behind him
“Daddy, I want to watch such and such show now”
He took the remote
He sat on the long sofa
He told the eight-year-old to sit at his side
He told the six-year-old to sit at his other side
He switched on the decoder
He avoided the two stations the children were quibbling over
As he was flipping through the channels
He stumbled upon a station
He saw a waddle penguins everywhere
He stopped at the station and increased the volume
He checked the information
The animated show was called “Happy Feet”
He told his children “We shall watch this one together
as brothers”
The eight-year old smiled
The Six-year-old didn’t quite get the message
He said “Daddy, but you’re not my brother right?”
The eight-year-old said, “Daddy was just saying that…”
The eight-year-old knew what to say but didn’t quite
know how to frame it
They settled down
Happy feet was the story of an odd penguin
The penguin that simply won’t conform
He wanted to
He attended the schools
He had real penguin parents
But rather than sway, waddle and sing
Happy feet would tap his feet and make music
He couldn’t help dancing
He couldn’t help being happy
He couldn’t help being himself
He got rebuked several times by the elders of the community
He got shunned by fellow penguins
He ruined music for everybody in his class
He was booed and eventually kicked out of the community
He had caused too much damage!
The boys liked it
They were watching the show with rapt attention
He wanted to leave them to it
He had a lot of work to do
But he couldn’t summon the courage to do so
He saw in the show something quite jarring
The Penguins
Black and white and still and sore
There was a way they were doing things
The way was the way they knew
The way used to work
They had more than enough fishes to eat
But then things changed
But the Penguins refused to change
The elders insisted things must be done their way
The same old way of toil and sweat and lack
They wouldn’t even consider a new approach
They wouldn’t even try something new!
Those who tried something new in the past
went awfully wrong
Nobody was allowed to try something new again!
The Penguins
The Pharisees
A sea of heads in suit and shirt
Custodians of the oracles of doctrine
Some with the gift of the garb
Others with the technical know how
Some divinely called but unguided
Others, just called but unled
They frowned at Jesus
His way was too “Happy feet” like
He was without the guidance of doctrine
He operated outside of the encumbrances of the law
He told those who had no sin to cast the first stone
He forgave sin
He healed on the sabbath day, several times!
He wasn’t bogged down by the weight of religion
He was democratizing spiritual knowledge
He was practically stoking the fire of rebellion
Not against Rome as they had all desired
But against the established religion of God!
How could God ever forgive someone who dared
encourage people to walk in freedom!
Freedom without the religious and moral constraint
of the law will result in anarchy
People dared sing “Hosanna” to him
He rode a donkey into Jerusalem as “King”
fulfilling the prophecy of Zachariah!
He said “He was called the Son David” by Bartimeus
He called himself the “son of man” as predicted
by Daniel
He used mud and his own spittle to cure blind eyes
How was that doctrinal?
He told somebody to go and wash in a pool?
Where was that in the book of the law?
There was virtually no difference between his miracles
and the occultic miracles!
They said he healed the sick by the power of
Beelzebub
He had no way to prove otherwise except by his
sweet words and claims!
He simply wouldn’t play by the rules
John the Baptist didn’t play by the rules too
Zachariah also refused to play by the rules
Jeremiah, Amos, Elijah, Elisha, Isaiah
So many of them suffered and died a horrible death
because they wouldn’t conform
Why wouldn’t they just conform?
Those who conformed lived their lives to the full
They ate what was provided
They were celebrated
It is true that they didn’t really walk in the supernatural
Nobody really cares!
Life is full of ups and downs
The lucky ones also faced their own battles!
When we get to heaven, we will ask the questions
For now, we have to live with the answers we have
Or the reality we were given!
People are so easily deceived!
It is the job of the Pharisees to ensure the sheep of
their pasture does not follow a hireling!
But they forget…
Pain and misery drive people nuts!
They would do anything out of desperation
The charlatans and the hirelings know this
They would milk the desperation and
take advantage of His flock
They would seek necromancers and sorcerers
to afflict and deceive
But yet, there is the balm in Gilead!
In all the fake prophecies, announcements,
proclamations, jingoism, “penterascalism”,
fake miracles, fake signs and wonders,
God is still walking among His people,
giving gifts to men, teaching men to live
the full life of the Son, urging us on to greater works!
He still heals the sick, raises the dead,
sets every work of darkness in disarray!
He remembered those early days when he didn’t know
where he would fit in
He was a pastor whose spirit wouldn’t settle for
burying the dead when he could raise them!
He was a teacher who found most of the mainstream
teachings of the church “Unscriptural”!
He followed the Holy Spirit and no one else!
He was told “You cannot heal the sick”
He did!
He was told “You cannot pray in tongues!
He did!
He was told “The Holy Spirit is a silent voice inside you
He does not have any effect on your physical body”
He found that to be very untrue!
He was told “If you sin, God will not answer your prayers”
It is a LIE!
He was told “God giveth, God taketh”
He discovered that “The devil also takes and whatever
he took could be taken back from him by the spirit
of dominion believers have
through the Holy Spirit”
He was like Happy Feet!
He couldn’t just fit in like others
He especially found the suit, shirt and tie very uncomfortable
He walked away from Brick and mortar
The Holy Spirit said to him “Don’t ask yourself if my people shall
be willing, just obey”
He obeyed!
“God’s people were willing in the days of His power!
Happy Feet brought fish to the waddle of Penguins
Jesus brought eternal life
The Brother In Jeans and T-shirt became a harbinger
of Christ and His greater works
Demonstrating His power every day!
He enjoyed the cartoon and the company of his
children thoroughly
His children didn’t know that the Holy Spirit watched
the show with them
So he told them
Do you know the Holy Spirit watched
Happy Feet with us?
His six-year-old said, “Was it not the Holy Spirit that
made happy feet a dancing penguin so that he can dance
and get the humans to bring fish to the penguins?
Exactly!
PS: Are you restless?
Do you feel there must and should be
more to spiritual growth than
mesmerizing words of little or no impact?
Are you a believer and yet you have managed and lived with
pain and trauma because you were told it is your cross?
Are you suffering from demonic affliction?
Are you spiritually weak?
Do you speak in tongues but you don’t even know if it is real?
Your questions and feelings are legitimate!
The Holy Spirit does not deal in mediocrity!
It is time to embrace the unusual
Call on the Holy Spirit now!
