Hard Knocks
How could life be this unfair?
Her roommate had everything,
The looks, the brains and the man.
She came to campus every Sunday evening.
And returned to her man's place every Friday for the weekend.
Though they were not officially married,
Both families were in sync with the arrangement.
And here she was,
Beautiful as a peacock,
Yet, struggling to pay her school fees.
Struggling to measure up with the expected standard.
Managing with powder, while her mates were using make up kits.
She needed to do something about her situation.
But she did not have any connections.
What could she do?
Her roommate resumed as usual that evening.
She showed off her latest iPhone
He just bought it for her.
She came loaded.
Whenever she talked about her man,
She stirred the heart of everyone to wishful longing.
He treated her like a precious gem.
He had promised to buy her a car for her next birthday,
Her roommate revealed with dreamy eyes.
She couldn't deal.
Her roommate was as unsophisticated as they came.
From one unknown town, not even a city.
If only he had a taste of soup from another pot,
He would be cured of his narrow mindedness.
That night, she stealthily took the iPhone and copied the telephone number of her roommate's man
The next morning, she called.
'Good morning sir, I am so and so. My roommate is your friend. She doesn't know I am calling, I am calling because I will like to see you. I don’t mind coming over to your town this evening or any other evening when you are free. It is very urgent sir.
Her roommate's man gave her the description. Told her he would pick her up at the motor park. She packed her overnight bag, told her roommate she was going to see a friend and traveled.
The journey was good.
She smiled right and winked right.
He got it.
She spent the night
Yipee!
She returned the next day with 20,000.00 and had also booked a weekend.
Her roommate told her later in the day that her man would be travelling for the weekend and she wouldn't be traveling.
From that day, they started alternating weekends with him
Her roommate was in the dark.
This went on for one session.
As they moved to final year, she realized she might have won the battle but she would lose the war.
Her roommate was still on course to marry him but he never treated her more than a side chick.
She decided to raise her stake.
What has she got to lose?
She told him she would like him to come with her to the city.
He reluctantly agreed.
She planned to take him home.
Introduce him to her parent,
Put his integrity on the line.
Sheepishly he followed her.
Somebody saw them, called her roommate.
So and so" and your man are "here and there"
Roommate arrived at her house.
Saw his car.
Waited till they left.
Waited until they were far away.
Went in to see her parents.
'Mummy and Daddy', she said, your daughter came here with my man. I am not angry, but I have sworn a blood oath with him. Whoever comes between us will die!
Roommate got into a bus, went to her man's town.
Roommate found them.
David Hayes vs. AJ.
Words were exchanged.
Insults were traded.
Then blows.
It was quite a sight!
Roommate fought with a venom.
She was soundly beaten.
Thrown out in tatters
She got to school.
Her parents were waiting.
Why have you done this?
Her Mother was hurt.
Her Father disappointed.
Their hostel caught the fire.
The rumor spread.
She managed to finish her exams.
Returned home.
One year later, roommate married him.
She got a job at a bottling company.
The MD was 9 years older than her.
He said 'HI"
She ran.
He was obviously married.
She has learnt her lesson.
He went to her church, spoke with her parents.
He was a young widow.
He had two daughters.
His intentions were true.
She relaxed.
He would be her own man.
She married him.
They have two boys.
The end.
