Sunset

He had always believed tomorrow should handle its own problems.

Didn't Jesus say sufficient unto each day was the evil thereof?

But tomorrow has a way of sneaking in like a thief in the night.

He studied as he ought to.

Had a good result.

Got a scholarship.

Found himself abroad.

He had laid his bed.

Now he laid on it comfortably.

He was one of the top three students in his class.

He was assured of a good job.

He would most likely naturalize and become a citizen.

His path to glory was paved by the Way maker Himself.

How could he not be cocky?

Then he met her on the tube.

She was definitely from his country.

Most likely, recently arrived.

He wanted to talk to her.

But she seemed tense.

He decided to observe her from afar.

They got to a stop.

A crowd exited.

She was gone too.

But one of her bags was on the seat.

She had forgotten her bag.

He took it.

It contained her laptop.

Some books and credentials.

She just got admission to study software engineering.

There was no phone number.

The next day he went to her school.

Waited three hours until she turned up at her department.

It was obvious she had been crying.

He handed her the bag.

Disbelief and gratitude flooded her, all at once.

He stayed a bit and helped her through the process.

They became friends, hung out together every weekend.

Their schools were 30 minutes’ drive apart.

Three months after that fateful day he first set eyes on her on the tube,

they became lovers.

It was meant to be.

Their love was real.

He had always been a bookworm.

His social skills were near zero.

All he saw was love.

Still He didn't want the love thing to affect his academic performance.

She was the one to always come around.

He spent most of his time at the laboratory

She had his spare key.

It all made sense.

He completed his programme.

They had been together for one year.

He decided to visit her in school.

Celebrate his success.

She was not in school

He called her mobile.

She didn't pick.

He drove over to her house.

As soon as he parked he saw her.

He had been worried.

She invited him in.

He left the next day.

Celebrating with a loved one, was truly a gift.

As he drove homewards,

He saw a store, he branched and bought a ring.

It was high time he made an honest woman of her.

He got home.

He called her.

Teased her to come over.

I have a pleasant surprise for you my love.

Queen of my heart.

Could you come around?

She got there.

Less than four hours later.

She came with her overnight bag.

She knocked.

No response.

She called his phone.

It rang out.

His car was in the garage.

His door was locked from inside.

Something wasn’t right.

She called the campus security.

They came around.

The broke his door.

They found him dead.

Blood oozing out of his ears and nose.

They said it was brain aneurysm.

She stood there, watching the drama.

Lifeless.

All meaning, lost.

As they carried him from his house into the ambulance.

She saw the ring and his short note.

"Be mine forever"

She wept!
