Lively Stones
The day Absalom led the rebellion against David in Jerusalem, the King was able to know his true friends before the end of that day.
Some of his so called friends betrayed him without batting an eyelid, some others followed him as they did long before he ascended the throne of Israel.
It is good to have a bond with the people God has made you a leader over, especially in the Christian faith.
There are some who will come and join your ministry after the glory has become evident. They would come seeking for blessings and then decide to stay with you so that they keep benefitting from your grace.
There are those who were there long before the glory became tangible, those who only saw the potential you had and were prepared to give you the benefit of the doubt. When push comes to shove in the future, the ones who came for the milk and honey will disappear.
I remember a minister of the gospel who admitted to sleeping with his secretary some years ago, before you could say, “Jesus”, many of the members had left.
Guess what?
Those who knew him long before his ministry became established stayed with him. They stuck with him through his season of penance before restoration and the ministry thrived even better after the scandal.
I also remember the season of great trial for a minister of God in America when his wife divorced him to marry a much younger man.
Some members said according to the Baptist
Constitution he must resign as Pastor because a divorcee shouldn’t lead the church.
His base (those who had been with him and known him before fame came) rose up and rallied around him.
They defied the constitution of the church and insisted he must continue to lead the church!
I know a pastor who had money and decided to start a church, he expected people to show up because he was a household name but nobody did. He came to me asking what else he should do, I told him to start by raising men instead of edifices, and the testimonies from the changed lives are important to his evolution as a minister of the gospel.
Jesus raised men and women and the people Jesus raised, raised more people.
As this continued over time, it got to a time when there were those who knew Jesus and walked with him one on one and there were others who didn’t know Jesus personally but knew those who walked with Jesus physically; until we came to those who knew only the disciples and then those who only knew the generation after the apostles!
This system is still evolving till today.
The good news is not about things, but it is all about men.
To be a glorious ambassador of the gospel, you have to learn how to build men through the Word of God.
Such men will never condone evil or encourage you to do wrong things, they will hold you accountable but even when you err, they will lend a hand of help rather than crucify you!
You must learn this.
I often wondered as a young minister how men of God who preached idealistically about marriage and fruitfulness, cope when their marriage failed or they had to wait on the Lord for the fruit of the womb.
I told myself such things will never matter if I did the gospel right and anchored my faith and that of those who the Lord raise unto me upon Jesus.
I know I wouldn’t be judged by how perfect my life is lived but how perfect it is as stated by the word of God!
Finally, try to be a very good example in words and in deed to the men and women committed to you by God.
Be open to them, be transparent.
Don’t be an hypocrite
When they see that you are for real, they will be real to you too
They will be echo of your voice everywhere and when they speak it will be of one spirit with you.
I love PSSBC Ministers
