Taming The Mad Dog
Her marriage had always been a wild affair
Her husband was a very temperamental man
Everything she did made him angry
He would scream at her, embarrass her
anywhere
He was always frowning and complaining
Nothing she did was good enough
He was a mistake she made too early in life
He never raised his hands against her but
the verbal, mental and emotional abuse
was like fire under her skin
On numerous occasions, they would go out
together
Maybe to church or a party as a couple
She would say something, anything
If he didn't like it he would give her that
you're dumb look
Sometimes he would outrightly tell her to
shut up in front of everybody
There were times he actually drove off and
left her behind to find her way home
She wondered why he got married
She wondered why she married him
He had always been like that
Always impatient!
They met at her elder sister's Christmas
party
The Christmas party was a family tradition
started by their parents in the 80s
After both their parents died, her elder
sister took it up
They had the party of December 23
Every member of the family took the party
as reunion time
She was serving the guests
He followed her and asked for her phone
number
She gave it to him
He called later that night to compliment her
That was how the journey began
She was waiting and praying to be found
He was a banker (IT) and he was ready to
settle down
He was her answer
They had their moments
One of such moments led to their relocation
outside the country
Her best friend, the only one she told about
her domestic challenges, told her about an
immigration process to the UK
She got the form and prayerfully told him
about it
He fell in love with the idea
They relocated a year later
They were both granted visa and everything
went smoothly
Her best friend was an immigration lawyer
She helped them a lot
When they got to the UK, he got a job with a
Data Management facility
She got a job with an NGO Perhaps because
they were far away from home and had only
each other in a new environment,
He changed
They spent more time together and bonded
more
She started thinking about getting pregnant
(She had been steadfast with her pills before
then, because she didn't want to have children
in an abusive relationship) but they needed to
settle down properly and have some money
in the bank
She discussed it with him and they agreed
to wait only for two years more
Their marriage would be four years by then
and she would just be clocking 30 while
her husband would be 33
By their projections, they would have enough
to raise a family by that time
One morning, six months after they relocated
she got a phone call, it was from a lady
The lady asked to speak with her husband,
she told the lady to call his mobile
The lady started laughing and giggling
suspiciously it was all too weird, too spooky
She checked everywhere
She went back to the phone and listened to
the voice mail messages one by one
She couldn't find anything
But why was he acting so "I got you where
i want you"
It left a sour taste in her mouth as if she had
been set up somehow or was she overreacting?
He never came back that day
The next day, she went to work hoping to meet
him at home when she returned
She met an empty house
She started feeling restless again
She called his phone
The machine told her number was no longer
in use
She started calling the few people they know
in church and his office
Nobody knew where he was
She went to his office the following morning,
she waited across the street and watched
as staff members went in
At 8:05 she saw him walking down the street
He was alive and well
It's been three days!
She called his number again
Later that evening he came home to pack
his things
He said he was moving out
He was no longer interested in the marriage
He had discovered her plot to deplete his
savings by making him pay for their
relocation to the UK just so that she can
file for divorce and leave him hanging
He said a lot of things
Nothing made sense to her anymore
He had turned the table and was accusing
her of calling the cops on him so that she
can claim grounds for divorce
He told her he had seen a lawyer
He called her a snake
He said all sorts
She tried to reason with him but he was
not interested in listening
He made her feel like she stabbed him in
the back
Like everything happening was somehow
her fault
She hoped he would cool down and come
back home
He didn't!
He left that day and stayed permanently out
of her life
He called their family members at home and
told them tales of her calling the cops and
planning to kill him and all sorts
The divorce became final in July 2018
He married her best friend, the one who
advised her to move to the UK with him,
in August 2018
That was when everything suddenly made
sense to her
PS: We are in a politically correct world
So i cannot really say what i have in mind
But I will say this
If you are friends with someone who is very
smart and selfish
And you know you are not too smart
Don't tell such your life's problems
Predators only see in green and blue
And if you open the sheep pen for a wolf
you cannot cry foul
Many people will blame the best friend
I did too
But I also admire her
I always admire smart minds even if such
acted in a devious manner by emotional
standard
GSW's Notes: I met the "Best friend" in
Lagos, Nigeria in December 2019
She was an admirer of my work
She told me the story
She said she helped the guy when he
got "thrown" out of his house by his
wife
She said the guy wasn't as bad as he
was painted
She said she helped him start all over
after the separation
Fellings grew and they got married
a year later
Some people consider me smart
So I had to add one and one together
to write this story the way I believe
it went
The "Wife" is still in the UK, she
is single and trusting God for a husband
I am believing God for the best for her
Finally, 1 Corinthians 3: 18Let no one
deceive himself. If any of you thinks he
is wise in this age, he should become a fool,
so that he may become wise.
19For the wisdom of this world is foolishness
in God’s sight.
As it is written: “He catches the wise in their
craftiness.”
