The Covenant

Mama came to the house at noon

He had gone to work

She just returned home from the market

Mama didn't give any notice, she just showed up

'Welcome Mama, can I offer you some water'

As usual Mama kept quiet, saying so much with her eyes

Watching her every move

She dashed into the kitchen

Started preparing lunch

Mama came into the Kitchen

Mama: Are you pregnant yet, or are you in this house just to eat delicacies?

She looked down, not daring to respond or look into her eyes

Mama waited a while

Then she returned to the sitting room

She was pregnant, but she had resolved to keep her mouth shut and never tell a soul

She had been pregnant before

Eight times

Each time Mama arrived as soon as she missed her period

Mama stayed some days

The pregnancy terminated

She never took it to heart

Mama turned green, but prayed

She got pregnant again

She told her husband she will like to got to the UK for a while

All in a bid to escape before she began to show

A day to her departure

Mama surfaced again

Fishing for information

So she read a book, watched TV, read her Bible and prayed

By 7 AM, she sneaked out of the house

She returned with her baby girl

Her Husband had visited eight times during that period

She had begged him to keep mum

AS soon as they got home

Mama arrived

Mama saw her

Her husband ran after Mama

What did they do wrong?

How have they offended her

Mama didn't say a word

Mama returned to the village that day

She refused to show up for the naming of the baby

Everybody tried talking to her

Mama didn't say a word

As she slept

She saw herself

She saw Mama

With a Knife

Cut her open

Removed her womb

And walk away

She woke up petrified

Pastor: Your salvation is in your mouth, declare right now your restoration, take back what had been taken from you. You are no longer a slave to the powers of this world, they are now under your feet

She believed

She prayed

She 'kabaya-ed'

She laid her hands on her womb

'Life!'

Mama had never been to their house in eight years

Mama arrived the very day she was confirmed pregnant

'Mama, I will have a boy' she announced

Mama looked at her

Mama: How do you know?

She: I called forth a son, Mama, the Word made him

Mama: Impossible

She laughed

She had a boy

Mama came for the naming

That night Mama called her

Mama: How did you do it?

I Had only him

My mother had only me

The covenant is forever

It was my duty to keep the covenant and I did!

She laughed

Mama, I forgive you but your covenant is not binding on me. I am a new creation!

Two years later, she had a set of twins

Mama was shocked

Mama explained the covenant

For their family to remain wealthy, they had a pact with a demon

One child per generation

Every pregnancy before the tenth one shall be miscarried

This has been so for fifteen generations

She told Mama about Jesus

Mama: Which Jesus, am i not a Christian?

She didn't know how to explain

She laid hands on Mama

Commanded the spirit of Christ to invade her

Mama fell, vomited many charms

Mama accepted Jesus

Her husband accepted Jesus

Mama never returned to the village
