The Speech

The Speech

He stumbled into money

He was a reporter at a local television station

The head of news in the station posted him to the state house

He was to cover the state governor’s itinerary

The governor took a liking to him immediately they met

The governor asked him how much he was earning

He told the governor

The governor told him to find out how much certain media gadgets were sold

He made the inquiries and told the governor

The governor told him to start a company

He did

The governor gave him cash

He was told to go and procure those materials and supply them to the state

So he collected hard cash from the governor, travelled abroad and bought all the listed equipments

When he returned home he supplied the same equipment to the state and tendered the invoice of quadruple the cost price to the governor through the office of the Special Assistant on media

The governor approved payment

He got paid

He also sent in an invoice on his consultancy fee

He got paid

His company was also retained to install the gadgets

He got paid

By the end of the first six months of the governor’s tenure, he had resigned

The governor didn’t ask him to repay the initial capital he advanced to him

He started his own media outfit

Bought cameras and employed reporters

Bought airtime on local tv stations

Started producing propaganda contents for the governor and his friends

The local government chairmen saw the relationship between him and the governor

The queued

They asked him to send his reporters to their local governments

He began a propaganda spinning machine

And he made good money

By the age of 36 he owned his own television station

People hailed him as a rich man

Many celebrated him as a success story

But nobody saw the other side of the threshold

Nobody saw the insecurity and the lack of confidence

Nobody paid attention to his need to sleep with anything and everything in skirt

Nobody saw the tears of his wife and his children

He tacitly moved his wife and children abroad claiming it is for security reasons

His wife knew what was going on and welcomed it

He had set her free to look for sexual satisfaction from willing men

She had seen and challenged him several times on his conduct

He wouldn’t budge

She shouldn’t be unhappy as long as he provided for her needs

He slept with two of her friends

Flew them to the UK for an orgy

When she challenged him

He said it was cheaper to fly them abroad for sex than get prostitutes to sleep with in the UK

He had so many concubines

He slept with staff members of his own television station whenever he found one that is available

The fact that such is single or married does not bother him in the least

He would say he had to maximize his enjoyment on this earth while he yet lived because there would be no enjoyment in heaven

At the age of fifteen, his son was asked to talk about his parents for five minutes to the whole class

It was a public speaking class and all the students were in rapt attention

He said:

“My daddy is the poorest man I know because he doesn’t have Jesus

When we came to this country my mummy was always crying, she will say many bad things about my daddy and sometimes she curses him.

Whenever my Daddy comes around to see us, she will pretend she loved him and smile!

My daddy doesn’t stay for long

He will stay for a few days and go back to our native country

Sometimes my mummy will bring her men friends to the house

We call them uncles

My mummy was not different from my daddy

My daddy has a lot of women friends too

We call them aunties

But one day my mummy met Jesus

I don’t know the full story but as you know we were not Christians

When my mummy met Jesus, she became different,

She became loving, caring, she prayed for my daddy all the time, she will lay her hands on us and pray that we will never turn out like our father, she told us we have only one true father and he is our Father in heaven!

The uncles stopped coming around

My mother was no longer talking of “getting even or doing her own because my Daddy was always doing his own”

She truly changed her ways

She became a very good mother

When she told me about Jesus, I eagerly accepted to be a Christian

I was nine years old and truly I experienced a very powerful change in my life

I stopped hating my Daddy for leaving us all alone

I stopped being afraid of everything

I had confidence and power

I had the Holy Spirit

Sometimes my daddy will come to America and while he was sleeping he will be having night terrors and screaming in his sleep.

My mummy would pray for him and he would calm him down

My mummy used to say that if she and my daddy were left alone on an island

She would have whatever she needed to survive without any help because she has the Holy Spirit in her

But my father would just die of hunger and thirst

My mummy has told my Daddy about Jesus often but my Daddy will not listen.

He will say Jesus

Several times when I was sick my mummy will lay hands on me and I would be healed

My daddy must get to the hospital for every illness

Several times when we need anything, my mummy will pray and help will come

My daddy buys everything with his money

When my daddy’s elder brother was diagnosed of prostate cancer and he was reduced to tears because the doctors gave him a 73% chance of survival

It was my mummy that laid hands on him in front of the whole family and he was healed

Since that time my father stopped complaining about my mummy taking us to church

I often ask myself who I would rather have with me if I died suddenly

The answer would always be my mother

She would lay hands on me and raise me from the dead

But my Daddy will cry and pay for my coffin

Finally I pray that my Daddy would come to know Jesus soon, otherwise he would end up like the rich man and my mummy will end up like Lazarus
