Forth Told

She didn’t know how getting a good husband became rocket science

"There are good homes all over the world

People are inherently good

Only a few people are evil in and of itself

Bad people do good things all the time

Good people do bad things all the time

Nobody is totally good

Nobody is totally evil

If you marry a guy with a good upbringing, he will most likely turn out decent

If you marry a guy with a poor upbringing, he will most likely be bad

The fruit does not fall too far from the tree

The key thing you need for a good marriage is a good job, a decent background and love

God and all the supernatural factors people talk about are wishful thinking

You don’t need God to be a decent human being

Those who claim they have affiliations with God are the worst philanderers and cheaters

Didn’t God tell a particular religious group to marry up to four wives?

Was it not the same God who allowed another religious group to divorce their wives with only a certificate?

Religion is overrated

Everything is based on luck and science"

That was her mother’s theory

Though her mother had her out of wedlock

Her mother claimed it was out of choice and not particularly because she couldn’t get a husband to marry her

When her mother had her younger brother, also out of wedlock

She said she got carried away at a party one night and after she discovered she was pregnant, she couldn’t bring herself to abort it because she wanted another child (Though she admitted she didn’t really know she wanted another baby until she became pregnant0

As they grew up in Southern California

Their mother drummed it into their ears

God is not a factor!

God is not a factor!!

God is not a factor!!!

They believed their mother

She graduated from the University at the age of 20

She didn’t date while she was in school at all

The number of Nigerians in their locality were very few

She could have dated from another country

But birds of the same feather often flock together

None of the single guys from the other nationalities paid such an attention to her

She got a job in New York

She met many Nigerians

She dated the first guy

He was from a very decent family

He was a very decent guy too

But he was always with his hommies

If they had a date, the hommies would almost always tag along

It was as if he couldn’t breathe without them

She tolerated it at first but had to tell herself it was not for her

She walked away

She met another decent guy

Also a Nigerian from a very decent background

He wanted sex, sex, sex and only sex

He told her right at the beginning that he does not believe in marriage

She liked his freedom at first

But she wanted to marry

She had resolved shat she would do better than her mother in that aspect of life

For all her mother’s theories about marriage

Nothing could make up for the big gulf she had in her heart because she didn’t have a relationship with her father

Her mother did her best but she was not her daddy!

She wanted a daddy so badly when she was young that she actually had an imaginary one she talked to

Everyday

She was determined her children will grow up with their father in their lives

She walked away from that relationship amicably

When he acted hurt and asked her why

She said she wanted to marry one day

He laughed her off sarcastically

They had both discussed the rate at which black women lived and died single in America

Almost fifty percent of all black women living in America are single!

At 25 she moved to Atlanta, she worked as a systems engineer and joined a local church

She couldn’t even get a date for two years

At twenty seven, she relocated to Nigeria with her younger brother

Her younger brother worked with a lobbying firm and got a juicy offer to work for a company in Nigeria

She returned to Nigeria primarily to get a husband

She admitted to herself of her 27th birthday that unless she takes the bull by the horn

She would never get married

She discovered that the same problem persisted in Nigeria

So many single sisters in the churches she attended

The difference between them was that she wanted any decent man

They were praying for a God fearing man

She was in Nigeria for three years and couldn’t get either

When she clocked 30 she went to see her church pastor

She told the pastor how disappointed she was in her single status

Pastor asked her if she was born again

She laughed

She had been attending the church for three years and this was the first time anybody bothered to ask

Because she came from America and she attended church, they assumed she was a Christian

She told the pastor she was agnostic

She attended church because the church was the best place to start building relationships when you move to a new community anywhere in the world

It was all common sense

Pastor said “Do you know if you gave your life to Jesus today, you would be married within two years?”

She laughed!

How?

Do you have a husband somewhere to give me?

Pastor laughed

Pastor said “That is what the Holy Spirit said to me while I was talking with you. He said tell her if she will yield to me, I will fulfil the desires of her heart and make all things new for her”

She didn’t know what happened

Perhaps she was desperate

Perhaps she wanted to call the Pastor’s bluff

She accepted Jesus as her Lord and savior

She got filled with the Holy Spirit right there and then

She started speaking in tongues

Something crashed inside of her

She started crying profusely

The Pastor invited his wife in to assist him in attending to her

Pastor called an usher to bring something

She was really oblivious of what was going on

Hours later she had calmed down and left the pastor’s office

The usher walked up to her in the parking lot

“Hi, he said, I am so and so. I saw you in the pastor’s office earlier.

I was told you are member of this church, I don’t believe I have ever seen you before

But when I saw you, I told myself I have to wait to see you later. Can I have your number?

They exchanged numbers

He started calling

She started calling

They started going out on dates

He was thirty five years old

A telecommunications engineer

It felt as if they had known each other since forever

It was sweet

They prayed together

He had the gift of prophecy

She had the gift of discernment of spirits

They got married two years after they met

Exactly as the pastor prophesied

PS:  This event happened in Lekki in 2013

The couple have two children

Her mother and brother became born again when their second child was delivered in 2017

She is a cell leader in her church and helps counsel young adults waiting on the Lord for their marital destinies to be fulfilled

As you read this, know this, everything you will ever need for life and godliness is in Jesus

Everything!
