“KINGING” IN LIFE
…If by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ (Romans 5:17).
As God’s children, we’ve been called to reign as kings in life; this is so remarkable, especially when you consider the Greek rendering of the word “reign,” which accurately means “to KING.” The actual Greek construction is “…they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall king in life, by one, Jesus Christ.”
You’re supposed to be “kinging” in life.1 Corinthians 15:25, referring to the Lord Jesus, says, “For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet.” The Lord Jesus is in heaven, and there are no enemies in heaven to put under His feet; meaning that this verse isn’t talking about Him reigning in heaven, but in the earth. You might want to ask, “How is He then reigning in the earth, since He’s in heaven?” He does it through us! He reigns or “kings” in the earth today through us—His Church. We reign through Him, and He reigns through us.
In John 16:33, He said, “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” He overcame the world and gave us the victory over the world. He defeated Satan, put His foot on his head, and asked us to come put ours there too. That’s why Satan is under our feet today. 1 John 5:4 says, “For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.”
Being born again, you’ve overcome the world; you’re superior to Satan and the cohorts of darkness. You’re “kinging” over demons, sickness and disease, poverty, failure, and death through Christ Jesus. The only one who’s permitted to reign in your life is the Lord and His eternal Word; refuse to accommodate anything that hurts or binds. Keep “kinging” in life!
Many people think the verse above is talking about us reigning with Jesus Christ in the distant future. But no! It’s actually talking about us reigning— “kinging”—on earth NOW by Jesus Christ.
At the millennial reign, we will reign with Him, but today, we reign by Him or through Him. There’s a big difference between the two.
What Paul tells us in Romans 5:17 is different from Revelation 20:6, which says, “…They shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years.” Notice it says “and shall reign with Him….”
In Romans 5:17, the Greek word “dia” is used, which means “by” or “through.” So, we’re reigning by or through Jesus NOW; we’re reigning in His Name. Hallelujah! We’re called to exercise dominion and to live as masters and victors in life through Jesus Christ. We reign over Satan, darkness, the world, and all creation.
The Greek rendering of the word “reign” is “basileuo,” and it means “to king.” You’re supposed to be “kinging” in life. The Amplified Classic translation says we “…reign as kings in life through the one Man Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One)” (Romans 5:17 AMPC).
As we take up the responsibility of prayer, using the Name of Jesus, and operating in His stead, we enforce the Father’s will on earth and establish His righteousness in the world!
God has ordained you to reign and rule in life as a king. Not only does He want you to know you’re a king, but He also expects you to live as one; it begins with having a consciousness of royalty. When you look at yourself in the mirror, tell the one on the other side, “You’re a king!” Learn to walk, talk, pray, and live as a king, because when God looks at you, He sees a king! Remember, the Bible calls Him the King of kings; He is the Mighty King, but we’re kings under Him. Refuse to see yourself as a helpless, needy person; you’re royalty.
Living daily with this consciousness will impact your prayer life. Rather than “beg” God in prayer, you’ll pray like the righteous—with authority and power! The reason is that you know that by grace, He has called you to reign through righteousness: “…they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ” (Romans 5:17).
In God’s mind, when He looks at you, He sees a king. That’s what He’s made you. The Bible says He has made us kings and priests. He’s not planning on doing it, he has already done it. You’ve been ordained by God to reign and rule in the realm of life. He has made you superior to the devil and impregnable to the adversities of life. Today, not only does God expect you to see yourself as a king, but He also expects you to live as one, for that’s who you are.
The reason some Christians are not living as kings in life is their ignorance of the Scriptures. Many don’t know who they are, and as a result, they live below their call. If you’re born again, you’re a king, so you must live as one. Kings don’t beg; they make decrees. That’s their nature. They don’t make entreaties like commoners; they exercise authority. That’s how God expects you to live. He always wants you to exercise authority and dominion over the devil and the negative forces of life.
Even in your prayer life, don’t beg. God hasn’t called you into servitude or a beggarly life. He’s made you a king. So, when you pray, minister to Him as a priest, and make decrees as a king. The Bible says where the word of a king is, there is power (Ecclesiastes 8:4). Your words are backed with power; they contain inherent dynamic ability to change any negative situation and put the devil to flight.
Therefore, always be bold to speak in line with God’s Word. Be bold to make decrees, because as a king, whatever you decree shall be established to you.
