The Response

It happened on a Tuesday 
He had been away at work for two weeks 
He worked with a security outfit as a 
member of a special protocol team 
His team was usually deployed when 
there is a high-risk target in town 
The country was plagued with insecurity 
and prevention was always better
than cure! 
When he joined the outfit 
He was a well-trained police escort 
attached to an Italian expatriate working 
on the liquified natural gas project. 
His boss was so impressed by his 
professionalism and attention to detail 
that he offered him a job as the head 
of the company’s elite security and 
protocol team! 
The job paid very well! 
The downside was being away from 
his family for at least a forthright every 
month! 
That month, there were a lot of conferences 
and seminars in the oil industry! 
Expatriates flew in and out of the country 
daily from all over the world! 
His team used to work exclusively for only 
one company but other oil companies 
reached out to the organization and 
requested for their services whenever 
they had to bring in or host high value 
targets! 
They often got tipped so generously by 
the grateful expatriates that they 
sometimes forgot that they were even 
paid salaries! 
He met his wife on the job 
She was a front desk officer with one 
of the oil companies they worked with! 
She was beautiful, witty, decent and 
very observant! 
He had nasal congestion on the day 
he met his wife! 
He was sneezing and his nose was running! 
The illness came suddenly 
His eyes were red in no time 
He was already considering returning home 
to rest but he couldn’t unless he got one 
of his team members to stand in for him! 
She emerged out of nowhere with a cup 
of hot tea and a plate of Pepper soup! 
It was 11 in the morning 
He didn’t ask her for anything 
She just saw his struggle and 
swung into action 
The soup and tea is the trick 
The symptoms flew away 
He saw the heart behind the gesture 
He pursued her 
They were married eight months later 
She was a rare breed
When he got home that Tuesday morning 
everything was odd 
He found his three children in the living 
room at about 10 AM 
They should be in school 
It was unlike his wife to be sloppy with 
the children’s education 
He greeted his children and asked them 
where their mother was 
They said she was in the room! 
He got to the room, he found her on 
the floor half-naked 
She was alive 
Her eyes were half-open 
#She was blinking intermittently 
She couldn’t talk or move any part of 
her body! 
He grabbed her immediately and 
rushed her to the hospital! 
He was just in time!
Tests were done 
The doctors said she had a tumor 
in her brain 
The prognosis was very bad 
They said she would most likely not 
survive it 
The tumor had grown so big and 
she would have to be flown abroad 
for brain surgery to survive! 
Money was not an issue, he was 
covered by the HMO of his company 
Due to the high-risk nature of his job, 
he and his family had comprehensive 
coverage! 
She was stabilized 
The documents were done 
Two weeks after he discovered her 
half-dead in his house, they arrived in 
the United States of America for the surgery! 
The Hospital did another set of scans 
It was a hopeless case 
They told him they couldn’t operate on her 
because of the location of the tumor 
It was too dangerous 
They were sure she wouldn’t survive it 
They had experimental laser treatments 
but they were not sure how effective it
would be! 
He was desperate 
He called the HMO administrator 
“Can you move us to India or the UK, 
they seemed reluctant to operate on her here” 
He wanted action 
He didn’t want her to die! 
Eventually, they found a facility in Spain 
that was willing to take the risk of 
operating on
Her! 
He started making the arrangement 
to move her to Spain! 
His wife’s younger sister called him from 
Canada 
She was aware of his predicament and 
wanted an update 
He told her it was hopeless 
He told her about the plan to go to Spain 
She said “Can we try prayer? 
It won’t hurt and it won’t cost us anything! 
Can we at least try! 
He was desperate 
He agreed! 
She called him thirty minutes later 
She had the brother in Jeans and T-shirt 
on the line 
The brother in Jeans and T-shirt told him 
to lay his hands on his wife 
They spoke to her body 
They told the tumor to dematerialize 
The prayer lasted for thirty minutes 
They had a break in between while they 
talked with his hand still resting in 
his wife’s head 
The Brother in Jeans and T-shirt promised 
to call back the following day! 
That night, his wife somehow started moving 
her hands
He called the doctor! 
A scan was done! 
The tumor had reduced! 
Wow! 
The doctors compared the previous scans 
and MRI images 
They were perplexed! 
He called his sister in law 
They prayed again speaking to his 
wife’s body 
The tumor responded once before, 
They were sure it would yield
It did! 
She recovered fully 
The reduction in the size of the tumor 
was constant for ten days 
It was eventually gone! 
His wife could see and talk again 
They had to get a physiotherapist to 
help with her movement! 
She recovered! 
They returned to Nigeria two months later 
She was on her feet! 
Walking by herself 
Fully healed!
