Bizarre

I remember the day I asked
my mother about the
whereabout of my twin brother!
I was about six years old
I had an odd name and I had just
realized the name meant
I was a twin!
My mother didn't mince words
She said, my twin
brother died at birth!
And that was the end of the 
conversation!
My mother is a twin
She has an identical twin sister
Both my mum and twin sister
are married to my father
Outsiders don't know this
The official story was that my
mother and father were helping
her sister out after her sister
had a marital crisis!
This was the story I also believed
until five years ago when i turned twenty
I met a boy in the church choir
He was an undergraduate, a 
student of LAUTECH
I really liked him
He was very good on the keyboard
and the church employed him to
play during the strike
He was twenty-four years old
He was studying medicine
He was very handsome
He had me doing whatever he 
wanted with his first smile in
my direction!
I had always been a fool in love!
I used to steal my parents money
to give to boys who asked me
for anything when i was in
secondary school!
I had this thing, maybe it is a
weakness for all men
I didn't particularly have a type
of guy I crush on
As long as he was paying me
attention and being nice to me
I will do anything for him!
So this guy had my number
and he knew it!
I followed him around like a
lost puppy
All the other guys around knew
i was pinning for him
He knew it too
I was sure of it
But he ignored me
He flirted with other girls
and acted all matured around
me
He made me beg for it
And I did!
Shamelessly!
I wrote him a letter one
Sunday afternoon and told
him I would be waiting for
him in the room of one of
his friends
I had desperately arranged
by myself how to sleep with him!
I begged the friend to give me
four hours alone with my
crush
He saw the letter and came!
We talked
I really didn't have much to
say to him
I wanted him to get the message
and make me his girl
He got the message
He slept with me!
He was my first
He didn't tell me he loved me 
or that he would be faithful to me
or anything like that!
I knew he had other ladies in
his life
But I didn't allow myself to have
a buyer's remorse
I liked him and I went for him!
Somehow after the sex things
got better
He gave me more attention
and started treating me like I 
matter to him!
I didn't expect that!
I expected a smash and grab
Then a "walking" away
I got the opposite
We had more sex and grew very
intimate
I was a part-time student in LASU
at the time
We went everywhere together
We bonded badly
ASUU called off the national strike
We made plans
He told me when to come and
visit him in school
I followed him to the motor garage
as he left for school
His bus had an accident at Ogere
Right on the express!
He was flung out of the vehicle
He landed on his head and broke
his neck
He died instantly!
I was the last number on his dialed
calls
I was the one who was called by the
good samaritans who rushed to the
scene
He was dead!
I went mad!
By the time I regained my senses I
was twenty-two
I had been in the hospital for eighteen months
I had battled psychosis and prevailed
My Father, my mother and 
her sister took turns taking care
of me
My dead lover had been buried by this time
I wasn't even part of the farewell
ceremony
It was all a distant dream!
I didn't go back to school
I decided to start a business selling 
recharge cards in bulk
I did the business for one year
I got robbed one day
All my wares of almost a million
naira was stolen while i was in
a public bus
I ran mad again
This time, i was treated for six months
I got better
I decided to get a job
Just to keep busy and gather
the pieces of my life together
A pastor in the neighbourhood
introduced me to a lady in Lekki
The lady had seven domestic staff
I was employed as the administrative 
staff to coordinate them
The pay was fair!
The lady was verbally abusive
That was why she needed someone
who could absorb her abusive nature and
keep the domestic staff from revolting!
I suffered a lot while working with her
But I endured
One of the drivers took interest in
me
He was running a programme with
the National Open University
He had great plans but hadn't caught a break yet
I saw him every day!
I had to stay in the house because 
of the nature of the job and
the distance between Ota, where
my parents live and Lekki!
We started having sex!
No promises were made
It just started happening!
I was watching a video one day
He sat beside me
He made a move and I responded!
We were steady for six months
Our madam went for summer
with her two children
On the day she was to return,
he went to pick her at the airport
Something happened in traffic
on the way to the airport
A public bus hit his car
He got down
They had a fight
The driver's assistant hit him
with a wheel spanner 
He died instantly!
By the time we heard about
his death
My madam had been stranded 
in the airport for hours
That was how i lost my second lover!
I lost interest in the job 
I resigned and went back home
When i got home, the first child
of my mother's twin sister
was pregnant!
i was alarmed!
The girl was a dullard and had
no skill or education whatsoever!
She was going to end up like her
mother who had been a parasite
on my parents since her husband
dumped her with four children!
I didnt like the fact that her mother
and my parents didn't insist on
aborting the pregnancy or at 
least berating her for her foolishness!
I had my say!
I was angry and very frustrated!
I probably said too much
Later that night, my parents
and her mother came into my
room!
They told me the big secret!
My mother's twin sister's children
all belonged to my father
That was the reason her husband
kicked her out in the first place!
What!
My mother said "We both couldn't
hold down a man! All the men who showed 
interest in us died mysteriously! 
Our mother went
to make inquiries and we were told
it was the deity of twins that
has insisted on marrying us!
We must go far away from our
hometown and find a twin
whose twin brother died at
birth!
We must both share that twin
but the children of one will bear
the name of the dead twin while
the children of the other will bear
the name of the living twin!
It was strange!
But we did it!
I met your father in the primary
school where I was teaching
He was bearing Kehinde!
I asked him about his twin brother
He told me his twin brother died
at birth!
We became lovers
I somehow was able to sell him on
the idea of a threesome with my
sister
Men fall cheaply for such thrills
That was how we all latched on
to each other"
It made sense to her
I had suspected that my mother's 
sister was sleeping with 
my father for a long time
I wondered how my mother
didn't know!
I told her about my challenge
with men and how the men 
in my life kept dying!
She told me she would make 
inquiries!
She took me along to the place
where the inquiry was made
I was told I can never get married!
It was not in my destiny!
It was not written of me!
My late twin brother has refused
to release me!
He was my husband from heaven!
WOW!
I was twenty -five years old and i
had to live the rest of my life
alone?
I went to several places looking
for a solution
It was as if all the spiritualists
saw through the same lens!
It was hard being alone
It was hard watching my age mates
getting married and having
children!
I couldn't bear the thought of
being responsible for the death
of another human being, so I didn't
consider having a relationship!
But I am human and I need somebody 
in my life!
Somebody to say hello!
As I grew older, married men started 
winking at me
So I allowed them!
Nothing that will develop into
a relationship
We met, had sex and walked away!
It helped me with my craving
for a human touch without
the burden of guilt about
endangering the life of such
a man!
That was how I lived my life
until I met you!
I came for one of your meetings
I told you my story
You laughed at me
You called me Moremi Ajansoro!
You said I was thinking like someone 
who has never heard of
the gospel!
You told me there were a lot
of quirky realities and stories
in darkness but once I got born
again those realities changed
automatically!
I protested!
I told you about my LAUTECH
lover
You said "Walking in the light
is deliberate, not automatic,
as long as you are in the light and walking in
ignorance of the light, the reality of darkness
will prevail! 
You prayed with me and I got filled
with the Holy Spirit
You told me to pray in tongues
everyday
You told me to make my confessions 
and affirmations
daily
"I am light and my reality is of
the light
I am Christ and I dwell in Christ
My reality is written in the word
of God and not by satanic agents
I will be fruitful, I will multiply
and I will replenish the earth
as written of me"
I did it!
I did it for a year
I got a job with a microfinance 
bank as a marketer
I met a man on the job
He was a believer
I was not scared of being with
him
He proposed
I said yes
I came to you for prayers
You said "I will bless your marriage
but i am not praying for you before
you get married'
You knew I was still afraid
You didn't acknowledge my fear
We got married
You blessed our marriage
You served us communion
(I wonder why?)
I left your office in tears
I was thinking the evil spirit 
didn't kill my husband yet
because we hadn't started
having sex
But I know if i say that to you,
you will become impatient with
me, so i swallowed it!
We had our wedding night
And other nights and days
I got pregnant
I kept counting the days
Sometimes i would call my husband 
twenty times in one
day just to be sure he was fine
He survived the first six months
I had our babies!
A living set of twins with CS
at eight months!
The baby lived
My husband lived
You came to the hospital wearing
your Jeans and T-shirt
You were so cocky
Your attitude was so "I know what I
said"
My mother fell on her knees to
greet you
And you prostrated for her!

My family is intact and healthy
I am no longer afraid of anything
I know who I am!
