Ghost Twin

She was ten years old when she met him 
She had measles and had been “quarantined” 
in one room in the house 
Her body was covered in calamine lotion 
She was running temperature and she had 
feverish feelings 
She had also been given an injection by 
their neighbour who happened to be a doctor. 
She was half asleep! 
He walked into the room out of nowhere 
He was wearing a white garment 
There was a long chain on his neck 
He had anklets and matching hand chains 
He walked with confidence 
Smiling at her like they were old friends 
She smiled back! 
He walked over to her and sat right next 
to her on her bed! 
She had spent about three days alone in 
that room 
Her mother came in only twice a day 
They didn’t discuss much 
There was a radio beside her bed playing 
a gospel song nonstop 
That was all the human interaction she had 
access to on her lonely, sick bed
He laid down beside her and draped his 
right hand across her shoulder 
She snuggled into him 
They were a perfect fit 
She heard music in her heart 
There was a flood of joy 
It was as if her soul found a part of it which 
had been missing for a long time 
She slept off with a smile on
Her face! 
When she woke up hours later, 
he was gone! 
But she was sure he would be back 
Though he didn’t say a word to her, 
she understood that they had both 
found each other and they can no 
longer be separated 
He kept coming until she was healed 
and declared fit to mix with others
He was there when she gained admission 
into the boarding house some months later 
He was not a figment of her imagination 
He was real! 
As she grew, he grew! 
He was her best friend and her soulmate 
Sometimes he would appear o her in the 
examination hall and help her with her papers
She graduated from university 
She got a job! 
She had never had a “real” relationship 
All she had was him and she was fine with it 
But nobody else seemed to get it! 
Her mother was running from pillar to post 
praying that her daughter will get
 married 
She was the prayer point of the whole 
family! 
All her friends got married and she wished 
them well! 
She was the best lady for four of them 
When he mother realized that she wasn’t 
bothered about it as she ought to be 
Her mother started harassing her father 
“You are indulging this girl, you are not talking
To her! You have left her to me so that 
people will say I am an irresponsible mother 
who watched helplessly as her daughter 
failed to fulfill her marital destiny” 
Her father, took her somewhere for prayer 
They met a prophet 
The prophet told her father about her unusual 
friend!
The prophet said “Your daughter was born as 
one of a set of twins! 
His twin brother died at birth and you guys
 didn’t do the appropriate ritual! 
The spirit of her late brother is with her and 
the two of them have forged a strong tie 
What they have is stronger than marriage!”
Her father paid the prophet a lot of money 
to get rid of the ghost of the twin brother! 
The prophet did some rituals and he assured 
them that it had been done 
That same night, a relationship that had 
always been platonic became sexual!
 She saw him in her dreams and it wasn’t fun
He was angry and called her an ingrate! 
She had never seen him like that before 
He flogged her with a broom and ordered 
her to remove her clothes! 
They had been together for eighteen years 
and all he had to do was ask her politely! 
He treated her badly, like she was his slave!
He raped her that night! 
Even though she didn’t resist him, he still
 had his way and taunted her about it
 until she woke up from the nightmare 
It became clear to her that she had been 
playing with fire 
She needed to get rid of him 
She went to see the prophet 
She wanted to be free
The prophet told her to pick her slippers 
and run as fast as she could back to her house 
if she didn’t want him to curse her! 
What! 
She wanted to ask him what was wrong 
but he wouldn’t even entertain a word from her! 
She left the prophet’s house dejected! 
When she got home she told her father 
the truth! 
Her father was gobsmacked! 
“You have been seeing and even sleeping 
with a ghost?” 
Her father felt she was making things up 
Her father kept saying the enemy had 
afflicted her with mental illness!
 It seemed her father never really believed 
the prophet!
Her father just played along so that he can
tell her mother that he did something about
the "matter"
Her words were too difficult for her father 
to bear! 
Nobody talked about her situation for the 
next three years! 
In those three years, she could barely sleep 
peacefully for three hours every night! 
She was harassed, raped, beaten, tied up, 
shot at and abused almost every night!
It was so horrible that she was always scared
to sleep
The day she clocked 31, she drank a bottle 
of insecticide 
The torture was too much 
But she didn’t die! 
She was miraculously rescued from death 
by her sister who walked into the room
 just in time and called for help! 
She woke up at the general hospital 
Her life was hanging by a thread! 
Somehow she survived 
She told her parents what she had 
been going through 
This time around they believed her 
Somebody told her mother there was 
a local charm they can do for her 
An idol that an herbalist will invoke the 
ghost of her brother into so that she can 
be left alone! 
Her parents were told to cook beans and 
share it in the neighborhood 
That same night she was supposed to 
sleep beside the idol in her room while the 
herbalist will do the incantations to bind 
her late brother’s spirit! 
She was going to be free at last! 
The herbalist had a serious accident on 
his way to their house that night. 
When they heard the news, they all got scared! 
They had been warned that one of the 
most difficult spirits to appease was the 
spirit of the twins! 
They didn’t know what else to do! 
The next day was a Wednesday, her
Father went to an interdenominational prayer 
meeting held by a church a few houses away 
from their house. 
After the service, he waited behind to see 
the pastor! 
The pastor gave him the phone number of the 
brother in Jeans and T-shirt! 
He called 
They met 
He told his story!
The brother in Jeans and T-shirt told him 
to bring his daughter 
He made a phone call! 
Within thirty minutes, his wife and daughter 
arrived 
The brother in Jeans and T-shirt told her 
about the power of the Holy Spirit! 
He said “If you accept Jesus as Lord and 
Saviour today and I get you baptized in the 
Holy Spirit and Fire, no evil spirit will be able 
to come near you ever again!” 
Wow! 
She believed! 
He led her to Christ 
While she was making her confession, 
she started to scream!!! 
They all watched her! 
The Holy Spirit has a way of dealing with human
realities on the spot!
 When he heals, he heals completely! 
She cried for almost an hour 
She just couldn’t stop! 
When she was done, she looked slimmer 
and brighter! 
The brother in Jeans and T-shirt told her 
never to entertain the thought of past affliction! 
It was a dead reality!
She believed 
Her parents also gave their lives to Christ and 
were baptized in the Holy Spirit! 
A few months later, she met her husband! 
They got married in November 2018
