Her mother was operating a local canteen as at the time of the incident

She was assisting her mother in the kitchen and sometimes as a waitress

The canteen was designed in such a way that customers didn’t really need to be waited upon

You walk in to the food line, make your order and receive the food at the end of the line right after payment

But some of their customers are “big” men

They would drive to the canteen in big cars and walk directly to the VIP section

Waitresses would take their orders and treat them like kings

They were charged extra for the services and sometimes they tip the waitresses

Some of the men have roaming eyes

Even though the management of the canteen frowns upon the waitresses making passes at the men

There can never be a legislation against human nature

Some of the men would drop their business cards with a heavy tip

Others would whisper mischievously in the ears of the waitresses

“I am staying at such and such Hotel, room so and so. Come and see me later in the evening”

Some of the girls know what such visit would ultimately lead to

They would prioritize the likely financial incentive and pay the men a visit

Others would just laugh it off and ignore the men

On one or two occasions, the men went on to marry the ladies

This for their level of reasoning was the ultimate dream

To marry their way out of poverty!

Most of the waitresses were semi-literate

A lady does not need a formal education to attract a man

They invest heavily in their appearance

For themselves first but also for what they intend to attract

They do their eyelashes, contact lenses, nails, all forms of extensions and they dress the part

Of course when an educated man discussed with them, their inadequacies would become evident

They usually steer clear of such customers

There are many rich men who would find their level attractive and uncomplicated

They would never give a man attitude

They are good in bed

They are beautiful

They know their boundaries

They know how to cook

They understand money

They are hardworking

They are good business managers and they all have acquired skills apart from being waitresses. In actual fact, they became waitresses in order to save money that they would use to  establish their own small scale businesses and be their own boss

What else would a decent man need?

The success stories among the waitresses (either married rich or went on to establish successful businesses) encouraged others that the job is temporary

Her mother would speak kindly to the ladies and remind them of such success stories

“I am not the type of Madam who would sit on the glory of my workers, go and ask such at such at so and so market, she has opened her own canteen. I supported her to the T. I took her by hand to the head of our association in this state and solicited that they add her to the cooperative society. Go and ask so and so in London, she met her husband here and now has her own tailoring establishment. If you are faithful to me, I will support you. If you are unfaithful, my own faithfulness will expose you! I have never done juju before, I have never done anything unusual to make money. God is my sustenance!”

Her mother was a good manager!

One of the waitresses came to announce to her mother that she would be leaving early one Saturday morning. Her mother was baffled! The lady had always conducted herself very well, her mother asked the lady why she was leaving? The lady told her mother she was getting married to one of the “big” customers.

Her mother was impressed

The customer was one of the richest widowers in the estate, he had been bereaved for over four years and many ladies within the estate had shown interest. How come he settled for a semi-literate waitress?

Nobody even suspected that she was having any relationship with the man, not even for a minute!

How did she do it?

She told her mother the man invited her to his birthday party the previous Friday and proposed out of the blue! Apparently he had been studying her for a while and came to the conclusion that she had the right temperament, attitude and behavior to be his wife

Her mother celebrated the lady

That evening, her mother called her and told her she would be made a waitress on a permanent basis.

Her mother’s reasoning was simple

It was the waitresses that were getting all the good men

Those in the kitchen were not even seen

Although she waited tables once in a while, it was never long enough to establish a good rapport or develop a deep relationship with some of the customers

She was 29 years old and didn’t have a serious suitor

It was time to get her in the faces of possible prospects

She agreed

The first man to show interest in her was a teacher

Her mother dismissed it right away

The second man was an international business man who had businesses in Germany and Italy

He spent an average of six months abroad every year

The only problem was that the man was married

The man was keen

He was very generous and attentive

Her mother was against it at first

But when the man suggested that he wanted to marry her and put her in charge of his businesses abroad, her mother paused

The man had no intention of marrying two wives into one house

The first wife would remain at home while she would be abroad

They needn’t know each other and each wife would be given their due recognition in his will

Her mother sought advice from friends and family members

Polygamy was not meant for the cowardly

A friend took her to an herbalist to check out the future of the union

Good things were said

“What would her daughter need to do to cement her place in the man’s home?”

The herbalist said they would do an incision for her after which she must spend some time at home with the first wife before travelling abroad. This will in no way harm the first wife but it will help her come to terms with having a junior wife in case of any eventuality in the future

Nothing anybody does against her would be able to harm her

Money exchanged hands

The incision was done

She got pregnant

She was ready

The man went home and announced to his wife

“I am marrying a second wife, I will bring her home for a few weeks before taking her to Germany with me”

The man’s wife was a born again Christian

She listened to her husband’s excuses with incredulity

“He needed someone he trusted to oversee his businesses abroad! A position they were grooming their first son for! He needed a companion while he was abroad, what happened to taking her along? They have three children and the first one was already in final year (high school) while the last child was in final year (junior high school).

The three children were in the boarding school

Men are such….!

The man said his bit to his wife and left.

The wife wept.

After many years of struggling with her husband, she had become the senior wife and no longer the only wife! Her throne is now to be shared! Vashti is giving way to Esther! But she had done nothing to deserve such a shameful circumstance.

O God!

She cried and griped and complained

Her soul melted in sorrow!

The D-day came, the husband told his wife he would be bringing the junior wife home.

As soon as he left, the wife packed a bag and left for a hotel

She had been following @gbengawemimo’s handle on twitter and had come to see that she had approached the whole issue the wrong way

The enemy came in as a flood and all she did was cry and gripe instead of raising a spiritual standard against it by the power of the Holy Ghost

She locked herself in her hotel room and started framing her future

“Father, my seat shall not be empty, there shall be no contention over Rehoboth. You gave me a home, I shall not be robbed of my inheritance. The stranger must leave for the fear and the dread of the Lord shall avenge my cause”

She didn’t just quote the scripture from her head, the words came from her spirit

She declared until somehow she found herself praising and glorifying God. Her plan was to pray through a book she bought for spiritual warfare but after one hour of declaration and confession, she found herself singing and praising God.

She wanted to stop

She couldn’t!

That night, the new wife woke her husband up at midnight and said “Sir, I have something to say! You are not the one responsible for my pregnancy. I have a boyfriend, we have been dating for some time and I love him. He is a teacher. I also met him at my mother’s canteen. My mother said I cannot marry him because he is poor but my heart is with him. I hatched this plan with my boyfriend to marry you, go to Germany with you and send him money to come over to Germany and elope with him!

Since I came into this house I have been unsettled. I have lost my peace. I cannot rest and I have this sudden fear for my life.

I feel very strongly that if I don’t tell you the truth, something dreadful could happen to me!

I am sorry sir!

He couldn’t believe what he heard!

He left her in the room and sat in the sitting room all night wondering at his foolishness.

A girl who didn’t even have high school education had made such a fool of him. A girl he thought would be gullible, controllable and malleable

At 5 AM his wife heard the Holy Spirit say “It is settled”

She checked out of the hotel and drove straight home

She found her husband in the sitting room, he was in tears!

He said “My darling, please forgive me. I am ready to serve your God”

She led him to Christ, he became born again

Hallelujah!

They drove the “junior wife” back to her mother’s canteen in the morning

The husband and the wife gave her and the teacher a substantial amount of money get a good start in life

If your marriage is a war-zone this moment, stop telling everybody bad things about your husband or wife. At best they will pity you, condemn him or her and offer you words of comfort.

God framed the whole world by the word of his power!

Frame your world by the living word in your mouth

Speak peace, rebuke the stranger, change where you need to do so, take to correction, resist the devil, pray brother, pray sister, rebuild the altar of the Holy Spirit in your home, kill that cancer, kill that devourer, overcome that disease, Win! Win!! Win!!!
