The Counsel

The Counsel

Her Father invited her into his study a day before she was to depart for the USA for her University education

Left to her Father, she would have had her education in the country, within his reach

But she was an exceptional student

She was offered an international scholarship at the age of sixteen by a fellowship based in the USA

It was too good an opportunity to walk away from

Her father knew this

Her father was a Reverend, an African and a man of understanding, some call him a philosopher.

He said

“Many Parents, teachers and leaders are not in sync with this generation

They bring religion and some common sense to a generation engineered to question everything and disbelieve anything and demonize authority.

In order to convict someone of wrong, a parameter for right and wrong has to be set

Those parameters are called objective truths

A child born with a certain (type) of genitalia is either a boy or a girl

This generation has been taught to question that

A boy can choose to become a girl even when he had not learnt how to speak correctly (His Father said he recently saw a picture of a 3 year old boy, whose parents claimed they were bringing up to be a girl because he liked female toys and said he was a girl)

Her father paused and lapsed into silence. He often did that to make sure what he was saying was sinking in on his subject

Her memories came alive during her Father’s moment of silence

Her younger brother used to like wearing gowns and make-up as a child, he did this till he was around 7 years old

She remembered taking advantage of his “I am a girl” talk to his detriment many times.

She would say “A boy who wants to be a girl should give his meat to his elder sister so that the fairy godmother can hear the sister’s prayer to change him to a girl’’

Or ‘’a boy who wanted to be a girl should not cry while taking injections because crying upsets the fairy godmother who will change him to a girl”

One day, he caught up with her tricks and became as competitive and assertive as anybody can imagine. (He is a proud father of two sons as this story was being told, and the mere mention of this episodes in his ears gets him laughing hysterically!

She thanked God he had not been transgendered at that time!

The credibility of genitalia as a measure of the difference in sex of children had been totally questioned and is still being questioned today

The credibility of the male species as the father figure, husband, protector, leader, provider, head and decision maker for the family unit had also been seriously questioned by the feminist movement

Women were supposed to look out for each other and advance the causes of the girl child especially in societies where women were still treated as property and denied the right to certain inalienable rights because of their gender!

That was a worthy cause

But what the feminist movement had turned out to be was a far cry from this reality!

Men became the enemy!

The ultimate target of the post-truth era was God!

The logic goes thus!

If truth can be rendered powerless and made subjective, surely everything relating to truth can then be questioned and ultimately God can be disproved as the product of the imagination of certain people whose goal was to keep certain people disadvantaged for their own gain!

A look at any newspaper headline would prove my point, continued her Father, the truth had been slaughtered on the altar of opinions!

“My daughter, you are a beautiful girl with a photographic memory that is destined to take you to corridors of power in the nearest future.

You are a mother in waiting

Your husband is your Master!

This was the order from the beginning, people can condemn and question it all they want but to do so as a believer is to question the supremacy of God over your life!

The same way you go to the market and choose the very best items carefully and unhurriedly, that is how you must choose your husband

You must pray and then you must choose!

Some people say they will wait until a man finds them, some say ladies must sit still for a man to find them, those people are jesters!

Did Ruth stand still for Boaz to find her? Did Abigail stand still for David to find her?

Wisdom was always the key in every relationship.

Wisdom would sieve through the intention of those around you and make plain their innermost desires

Communicate with wisdom every day!

For now let it be your best friend and confidant. Talk to wisdom the way I speak with you now.

If you learn how to yield to wisdom now, you will find yourself far ahead in life!

Pray in the Holy Spirit always! I am happy you are born again and filled with the Holy Spirit from the age of 14

Life is spiritual. my daughter

If you live only in the flesh and by human understanding, you will end up being a prey to somebody’s envy, ambition, schemes, devices, loathing, hatred, jealousy and ego

The complexities of human nature has made the spiritual world a reality

We have no say in the matter

It is either on the side of the Holy Spirit, on the side of the devil

The devil does not protect his own, his game has always been for the bigger fish to swallow the smaller ones

But by the power of the Holy Spirit all that was given to Jesus remained intact. Believers don’t swallow one another, we make each other better

The more you pray in the spirit and abide with wisdom the richer your life will be

You will write and see your own future even before living it out

You will find yourself living far above principalities and powers”

Her father then laid his hands on her head and blessed her!

She knew that day was important but she didn’t really know the significance until she got to the school

There was a high expectation of her and she delivered in style

She graduated on time and proceeded for her Ph.D. immediately

She was wrapping up her papers when she met her husband

He was a scientist who had to transfer his research programme to the USA from Germany and was finding the American system a little challenging

She was present at one of his presentations and realized he kept making the same mistakes she made when she arrived the USA

She decided to help him out

Later that day she sought him out at the cafeteria and commended him on his project. She proceeded to tell him she noticed he was struggling with adaptation and she would like to help him out

They talked all evening

Within a forth night, she had helped him sort out the issues

She was still in her early twenties and had never really been on a date except for two failed attempt at double dating orchestrated by one of her former roommates

He kept coming to see her and they eventually became an item

They were steady for two years

She had her reservations, but he was a good man

He really cared and didn’t have time for any other lady

Every morning he would upload his itinerary to her phone so that she would knew where he would be at any point in time

He was so disciplined that he wouldn’t deviate from whatever he posted to her earlier in the day unless it was absolutely necessary

And he would immediately update her via mail whenever he was doing anything or going anywhere outside of his primary schedule

One evening they went out and he said he wanted to start a family with her

She didn’t understand it

Was he proposing?

He said NO!

He said “I love you with all my life and I will gladly give my life for your own without hesitation but marriage is overrated! All the broken, depressed, unhinged, sad, bitter people I know were once happily married! Marriage turned them to something else!

If we became partners, you wouldn’t have to take my name, you wouldn’t feel I am taking advantage of you in any way and you wouldn’t feel I want to profit from all your achievements by colonizing you! I love you, please let us be partners in life and for eternity, I promise you will never regret it!

She had been looking for an opportunity to tell him about Jesus and the gospel, he had always hated religion and all it stood for even though he knew she was a believer. That was the only reservation she had all along!

She said “I have a King, he has ordered me to live in a certain way and I cannot deviate from it. He approved of you as my man and I promised him I will introduce you to him. His name is Jesus! I am not introducing you to religion, just to my king! If you have a one-on-one conversation with him as I expected and you still want us to go this route I would gladly do so!

Him: Wow! I will like to meet this king of yours

She: Jesus died for your sins and mine, he became sin that we might become his righteousness, I know this is alien to you but I believe after you have a conversation with him, you will understand

He laughed

“So how do I get to have this conversation with him”

She held his hands

She: Say after me “Lord Jesus, I surrender my life to you, I believe that you died for my sins and resurrected on the third day that I might become a new creature in you. I accept you today as my Lord and Saviour. I ask that you fill me with the Holy Spirit of promise. In Jesus name I pray” Amen

She didn’t particularly liked the way he laughed afterwards

It felt to her as if he didn’t believe a word of what he said and he would gladly make a fool of her over believing such a fairy tale

When she got home that night she fell on her knees!

Father, intrude his routine! Interrupt his ruminations! Invade his life with power!!! Have a conversation with him as I promised and let the Holy Spirit turn his life and realities around in Jesus name.  Amen

She didn’t see him for a week after then

She had to travel to Canada for a conference

When she came back

She found him waiting at the reception of her serviced apartment

He didn’t say a word! He didn’t even respond to her greeting. He just pointed to the elevator

When they got to her apartment, he said “Was that a trick or was it real?”

She didn’t know what he was talking about

She: I don’t understand the question

He: I saw the King! He was seated in a very beautiful garden!

There was river beside the garden and a choir must have been there because I heard music that almost tore my heart to pieces. The songs were refreshing, good, calming, soothing and out of this world

The king beckoned unto me to come

I walked towards him

I was full of both dread and joy

Oh my God!

He stood up from his throne and hugged me

That was all

Everything changed!

My body tingled all over

When I woke up from sleep my body tingled still

Even now my body is tingling!

Ha!

I cried all day, I couldn’t help it, the tears kept gushing

I forgot those who had wronged me, like the doorman in my apartment building, I had sworn I would never greet him again!

The very next day, I called him and spoke kindly to him and then I started calling others, old friends whom I had wronged or who had wronged me. I couldn’t stop!

I went online and googled the “King of Christians” and I read all I could about Jesus

The next day I went to a store and bought a Bible

I started reading from the book of Genesis

It was a wonderful discovery!

How can you know Jesus for so long and not share Him with me?

She didn’t know what to say

The timing was never right and he had always been a decent man

Decent people tend to view religion as a crutch for indecent people to rely on in order to become decent

He proposed to her a few days later

With a white gold ring!

She said yes!

They returned home for the wedding

When her father saw him, her father asked her

Is he the one you would comfortably submit to as your captain, leader and Lord?

She said yes!

PS: They got married on the 3rd of October 2010

They have three children

They have a helps ministry (Not a church)

They raise money to help rural communities have a better life by building boreholes, dispensaries, schools and churches for them
